More Gears of War Kinect Rumors

Word out of Kotaku recently suggests that the long rumored ‘Gears of War Kinect’ title may be an on-rails shooter. According to Kotaku’s ‘trusted source’ the game would be completely on-rails, leaving very little voluntary movement up to the player. They originally went on to post a supposed screenshot (which we included below) but later clarified that this may be from a very old version of the game in question. They also briefly mentioned that the game may reuse certain segments from previous titles in the series, which supports the image they posted.

As always, take this with the tiniest grain of salt you can find, although it does make sense that a Kinect shooter would be on rails. Pair this news with the recently trademarked ‘Gears of War: Exile‘ name and logo, and it all certainly seems feasible.

  1. I would think accuracy in aiming would be a major issue for Kinect shooters. I mean, close range and melee would be okay but picking off targets would likely require a lot of aim assistance.

    • Unless they came out with some sort of peripheral………

      • Hmm, some sort of device with motion and tilt sensors, that somehow worked in conjunction with the camera for improved accuracy? Nah, that’s crazy.

      • Oh oh oh, AND it could have BUTTONS! ;-)

But seriously, I’m sure they’ll figure out a way to make it all work, assuming this has any truth to it.

      • My money’s on heavy amounts of aim-assist.

        Also: inb4 PEW PEW PEW!

      • @Matt Buttons!? You are a madman!? This is maddness.:P

As KB once said Phew Phew. The only way it could work without anything peripheral would be to make autoaim mandtory. Unless you use the Force to aim. Sorry i have star wars on my mind atm.

  2. I’m confused was there an article a few months ago which confirms that Gears of War does NOT support Kinnect? Unless I must have missed something o_0

    • Yeah, it was confirmed Gears of War 3 doesn’t feature Kinect support :o)

      • Thank you Dan for the prompt reply.

  3. The idea of this made me wonder if the best way to do a 3d military/scif fi type game on kinect or Move would be to do something more along the lines of Full Spectrum Warrior. The player then taking more of a command role and telling folks what to fill with lead and where to move.

    • thats actually a great idea! i loved the game… and i do think it would work well with the move. dont know about the kinect… that seems to be more for big movements, like dancing and jumping and leaning. i dont know how well it would work if you use it for mouse-pointer-like input (i hate navigating menus with the kinect, so…)

  4. I Don’t like on-rail shooters. So pass.

  5. Screenshot is from Gears of War 2, near the start just after the tutorial section.
Trust me, played that game to death.
