Fan-made PlayStation Video Gains Popularity

Nothing gets me buzzing faster than a good game trailer for a title that I’m excited about, but what we’ve got here is something different. An apparent PlayStation 3 fan has created a very unique video that is rocking YouTube right now. It has gained over 5,000 hits in the past few hours and is likely to skyrocket to fame from here, with many major publications posting it on their sites.

Personally, I interpret this video as a ‘why we play games’ tribute but it’s likely that non-gamers are going to have a very different interpretation. Some are saying this video is one of the coolest things they’ve seen in a while, but others are claiming that it could be bad for games based on how the non-gaming media will view it.

It’s just below. See for yourself and be sure and let us know what meaning you get from it.

  1. Really nice movie.

  2. The lack of a clear message is very intriguing, even more so than the slick production.

To me it says that kids are still kids, they will ALWAYS dream and, imagine and get into mischief… and they Playstation is an extension of that.

  3. Really well made good job

  4. r=Really great video clip, but came to an abrupt end. Would be a lot better if it was say… 30 seconds or so longer.

  5. Thats up there with “I’ve conquered worlds” ad from a few years back. Who ever made it should get sponsorship from Sony….

  6. I’m surprised no-one is saying “gaming is how kids escape from the harsh everyday reality”, like with the schoolground fight and the girl stealthily evading her arguing parents..?

    • all of the senarios didnt point to that but thats a good point of view

  7. Very nice. To be honest though, its nothing specific to Playstation but rather a statement about why gamers game (not a negative as such). Very well conceived. Agree with everyone else in that it definitely doesn’t finish well. Feels like it needed to be punctuated in some way…
    Very, very nice job though!

  8. it’s a nice piece of work, captures what gaming is about, i can’t see it ever being used officially by sony though, not with scenes of a couple of kids having a punch up in a playground.
and the playing with guns bit might not be a good image either.

on the whole though, a great concept for an ad for a games console.

  9. As far as I can see it’s not “fan made” more od a showreel for a start up production company.

I thought it was awful: Yay, blow up kids to sell consoles. Clever. Not. They’re just trying to be edgy, this is the kind of shitty Sony have finally got away from using, don’t bring it back.

    Arty, just-got-out-of-film-school hey-look-at-me-im-cool bollocks.

    • Note: Not had much sleep, rather grumpy. It’s still bollocks tho :)

    • I couldn’t disagree with you more if I was wearing my +2 hat of disagreeance. It’s a lovely short and shows how gaming can be the most wonderful escape from the real world. How there is entertainment for all and that childrens’ minds are the most vivid playground that video-gaming can only ever hope to liken.

Finally, the quality of production, lighting and depth of field is excellent throughout.

    • If this were ever to be released there would be outrage. Kids with guns, beating each other up…..these games are 15 rated at best and not suitable for the little ones.
While it has a good point about games being another world for your mind and the scenes well executed it is massively flawed with such young children being the focal point for things not suitable for them.

  10. Anyone else get a born on the 4th of july feel from the kids with guns?
I thought it was well made and it shows games as being a way of taking part or seeing things you never normally would in real life (or at least stuff which most of us wouldn’t be able to) There is bound to be some sort of backlash because children are in it. Someone is bound to write a story saying “playstatoin taught my kids how to break out the house, kill, fly a rocket” all that jazz.
