Nothing gets me buzzing faster than a good game trailer for a title that I’m excited about, but what we’ve got here is something different. An apparent PlayStation 3 fan has created a very unique video that is rocking YouTube right now. It has gained over 5,000 hits in the past few hours and is likely to skyrocket to fame from here, with many major publications posting it on their sites.
Personally, I interpret this video as a ‘why we play games’ tribute but it’s likely that non-gamers are going to have a very different interpretation. Some are saying this video is one of the coolest things they’ve seen in a while, but others are claiming that it could be bad for games based on how the non-gaming media will view it.
It’s just below. See for yourself and be sure and let us know what meaning you get from it.

What meaning did I get from that? That kids re-enact things they experience in games. Not a good look for Sony or the videogame industry in general.
Another point for detractors of the industry pulling at straws might be, the fighting kids and the kids with guns may be interpreted as re-enacting scenes from games Beat-em-ups or FPS’ that had age ratings of 15 or 18, too old for the youths filmed.
If I had anything good to say, I suppose it’s nicely put together, well, apart from the cut-off ending.

What a brilliant video. Must have taken a while to plan and make!

Would have been a far more commercial vid if it used adults. The subject matter the kids are involved in leads too many controversial questions considering current media outlook on gaming. It’s either “video games encourage kids to do this sort of stuff”, which with the exception of sports is not going to be good, or its “kids dont have to fight, kill, be stealthy etc in real life, they can do it on PS3” at which point youre banging on the door of kids playing adult content games. Personally, I like the video, but then I’m fairly sensible in my attitude to gaming. Theres lots of people out there that wont be. Wonder how long it will take for the Daily Mail etc to see this….

I think this is much more of a statement than an advert. Yes, it seems to be saying kids will want to do these things, and that they will get to do them with gaming – but amidst the football and swinging a sword around, there are kids being shot at and others being punched in a playground. To me it seems like a statement to highlight how great the escapism that gaming provides is, but putting children into these situations to remind us to make sure it is appropriate

I thought it was a very well made film, but that it doesn’t send a very good message. Kids fighting, going to war, sneaking out from their parents.
Would be cool if it was adults, juxtaposed with the same adults looking bored in an office, then cutting back to them doing some of the things in the film.
I think by using kids it’s a bit “look how edgy we are”.

That’s very good if it is fan made. It uses the old logo to which suggests that it isn’t official…
