Polyphony has announced that Gran Turismo 5 has sold 6.37 million copies in the first six weeks of going on sale.
In the chart below from the developer, you can see that the game has already outsold both GT 5 Prologue and the PSP version of the game.
As expected, most of the sales have come from Europe, where the game has sold 3.97 million, against 1.58 million in the US and 600K in Japan.
Impressive.

Totally deserving. I’ve always loved the GT series and this is an absolutely stunning game which just keeps getting better. I am up to level 29 A-spec and 32 B-spec and still don’t feel like I have finished with the game yet.
Even NFS:HP which I was dead excited about felt a bit shallow when I finally got round to playing it recently. They are obviously very different games but I couldn’t help feeling that GT5 might have spoiled all other racing games for me! LOL

This is absolutely brilliant sales folks! Will probably pass 10 million as well, nothing to be disappointed of..

The Americans don’t support the PS3 as it’s a Japanese console and vice versa. Nintendo doesn’t count as it’s not comleteing with anything.
GT5 deserves more sales! More advertising will help it.

So what about the awful Japanese sales? Crap support from them. ;-)

It’s absolutely nothing to do with it being Japanese; Look how well the PS2 did in the US, It’s because the PS3 isn’t cheap! If it were cheaper than the 360, 99% of 360 sales would be PS3 sales.

Sold or shipped ? some sites saying shipped.

Sold to retailers I think, so shipped.
Either way, it’s doing great and is the best selling PS3 exclusive, ahead of MGS4 Uncharted 2 and LBP.

I don’t see why people are disappointed. 6+ Million units is excellent. Always has been. I think case for a game having phenominal sales is when it hits the 5+ million mark. This is doubly as impressive when you consider nearly all of those 6+m sales will be pure profit. This coupled with Uncharted, a wealth of exclusives and various portable deviced should see Sony have their most lucrative year in a long while!

Oops, I haven’t got it yet, had a ganders at the box in Tesco’s lunchtime (£35) but once again, slowly backed away.
Will pick it up soon enough though, there’s only so long I can hold off.

And by the amount of copies I saw in Cex and other 2nd hand game sections a few days after the release including my own copy several 1000 people where disappointed by it too.

Good to see a Sony exclusive do so well.
