Game To Offer Pre-Orders On Pre-Owned Games

If you don’t want to pre-order a new copy of Crysis 2 and don’t want to have to head into GAME on a whim, hoping that there’ll be a second-hand copy waiting for you, you can now pre-order pre-owned games.

Yes, really.

For what amounts to between a fiver and up to around fifteen quid off the cost of the game brand new, you can now put your name down to get a pre-owned copy of certain big titles any time after a week past the release date.

Such ‘big’ titles will include Fight Night Champion, Dragon Age II, Crysis 2, Homefront and Virtua Tennis 4, effectively saving yourself a few quid but meaning the publishers (and developers) won’t see a cut of the cash.

In addition, you’ll miss out on any Online Passes or content you’d normally only get with a brand new copy.  Here’s an example of Crysis 2 for 360, pre-owned and ready for pre-order, but not even released yet.

MCV have stated that the campaign is running on a ‘trial basis’ at the moment.

  2. Wow just wow. They have crap serive and most of their employees don’t know or care about what they are talking about. So instead of paying £49.98 for a new game, you can pay£49.97 for a preowned copy that is scratched, without a manual and a very damaged case. Game’s prices are a joke. I saw the price a preowned copy of a game for more then a new copy. This is going to have some bad effects on us if this is successful. Game, ripping people off and banning gamers who tell the truth since 2000.:P

  3. I don’t see why people think this is a pointless thing, in fact I think it is very clever on GAME’s part. There will be two types of gamers; those who are so amped about a new game they will get it on release regardless and those who aren’t that bothered who are happy to wait a few weeks. This could get the jump on the latter and some of the former if they think games will be traded in quick enough. Thus having an instant increase in GAME’s total profit through pre-owned sales. Of course there is always the risk too many people will wait for pre-owned and not buy new to trade in thus making the plan fall flat on it’s face and it doesn’t do anything to help the already troubled games’ market being heavily damaged by the pre-owned market.
