Resident Evil: Director’s Cut Coming To EU PSN

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil: Director’s Cut is finally going to be released in Europe. The game will be available on March 23rd for €9.99/£7.99. It was released in North America in 2009 for $9.99.

Resident Evil: Director’s Cut is an updated re-release with new features not included in the original game. Most notably, there’s auto-aim, alternate costumes, new camera angles, and a mode that arranges the placement of key items.

Thankfully, the Dual Shock version of Director’s Cut never made it Europe. That game is known for its hilariously atrocious soundtrack. Consider yourself lucky.

  1. As this is updated and re released, does that mean it’ll have trophy support?

    • No trophy support, it’s a PSone title that plays on both PS3 and PSP.

  2. Gordon, no trophy support, I don’t think it’s been modified for the PS3 specifically, as this version was available on the PS1 previously. Unless I’m wrong? Updated graphics??!!

  3. p.s. can you use the ps3 sticks on the controller with this?

    • You could with every other PS1 game on the PS3 (go to the PS in-game menu (Not the XMB) and go through the various setting. In one of them it should read: Analog function: Off; turn it on)

      • if the original game supported the analog sticks then the downloadable version will.

ffvii for example didn’t support analog sticks so you can’t use them.

not sure if this game supported them or not, it might have come out before sony launched the first dual shock pad.

      • Don’t quote me on this, but I don’t think you can use the analog stick for this game. If I recall correctly, the use of vibration and analog controls were added in the Dual Shock version of the game. That one was only released in JPN and NA. It’s also the same game with the mess they call a soundtrack.

  4. Oh my god, at last! I bought the dual shock one off the US store ages ago and i was gutted by the terrible music and effects….it was hard to get over the bad changes made to it, the uk wallet is stocked up, ready for next wednesday…..oh yes—i can hear it now…”WOW WHAT A MANSION”…the PSP is ready.

  5. Not for me. IMO £7.99 is too much for a PSone game.

  6. I remember when I first got it for PS1 and was too scared to play it myself, I think I was like 8 or something. Wonder if I’ll be brave enough now?

    • Yeah i remember when i played it for the first time when ever i went through a door i hit the pause button lol ah the memories

  7. Fair enough. Although it’s surprising due to them actually going back into the game and ‘fixing’ certain elements, I’d have thought it would have fallen under Sony’s guidelines for trophy support, especially as crazy taxi has trophies.

It would be nice to see a next gen remake of these games. From the ground up, a complete rebuild. I would imagine they would be even more terrifying today than the originals were

    • RE1 already has one on the Camecube/Wii, not quite this gen standard but much better than the original and still very pretty to look at even today.

    • I should point out that the game is an updated re-release of the original game and it came out in 1997. The game hasn’t been modified since that release.

  8. I didn’t play Resi much, I was young enough for it to creep me out. The sum of my experience was running around that large dining room a lot, getting saved from a zombie, and a vague recollection of wolves jumping through a window.

After this, it’s all youtube – ‘you were almost a jill sandwich!’ [commits suicide]

  9. So is this graphically better than the original PSone version? Wish there was a complete list of changes.
Will this be the same as the gamecube version then?

    • This is the PSone version. In Europe there were 2 versions of Resident Evil 1. Resident Evil and Resident Evil Director’s Cut. In North America and Japan, there was RE, REDC, and REDC Dual Shock.

Each version has differences in them. The one that is coming to Europe next week is REDC for the PSone.

  10. This is good news i’ve wanted to play this game again for a while now had this on my PSOne but then foolishly traded it in. That music can you call it music it was more like just different sounds put together
