As of tonight, the PlayStation 3 will have its first ever English free-to-play MMORPG, Free Realms. Sony Online Entertainment’s kiddy-themed time sink originally launch on the PC in April 2009, followed later by a Mac release last November.
Free Realms was announced alongside two other MMORPGs, DC Universe Online and The Agency, SOE boasting that all three would be made available to both their PC and PlayStation audiences. However, up until recently many thought the PS3 version had tanked, mainly due to its absence from the mainstream media. To cement the game’s emergence, here is an official launch trailer.
Admittedly the game hasn’t received much hype building up to its PS3 debut, and with Free Realms’ core audience being the least susceptible to word-of-mouth commendations, it may be in for a rough launch.

Personally I am not sure about this – Sure, I do love me some trophies & the thought of getting something for free is tempting, but the issue I have with this is twofold;
1. I am desperately short of HDD space these days (I think I only have a few GB kicking about at the mo!) & I see this as being the sort of beast that could potentially grow to some size for an install/save file (what with updates & whatnot)
2. I am not sure how ‘free’ their version of ‘free’ is – If I need to spend money on the store to get the most out of the game/experience, then it probably isn’t for me & subscriptions are a definite no-no for me. I’m the kinda guy that likes to pay his money & then know that the whole thing is paid for & that I am not gonna incur additional charges.
Am kind of interested as I have ever played an MMO, but the above points really put me off even downloading the thing in the first place.

1: i think it weighs in at under a gig, so space shouldn’t be too big of an issue.
2: you get quite a bit of game there, from what i’ve read you might be able to take each job up to something like level 5, and there are a lot of jobs.
though i’m not 100% sure on what the limits are for free play..
lastly, you might as well give it a try, you can delete it if you don’t like it and you’ll only have wasted a bit of time.
there are worse ways to spend an hour or two.

Think the ESRB interpretation of Crude Humour may differ from mine….

That trailer and music has too much of an American syrupy vibe to it. I feel nauseous.
