Sony’s James Gallagher has confirmed over on the EU Blog that, once the PlayStation Network is finally back up and running again, whatever you had before will still be there.
Some had thought that their Trophy count would be reset and they’d need to rebuild their friend lists – thankfully, this isn’t the case. “When PSN is restored,” said Gallagher speaking on behalf of SCEE, “friends lists, trophies and wallet funds will all be exactly as they were before.”
This is hardly unexpected – Sony’s security might have meant that your personal details and credit card information was compromised, but the shutdown of the authentication servers meant that nobody could log in or out using that data, so your accounts will be identical once you get back in.
The first class action lawsuit appeared this evening – customers aren’t happy with the massive leak of crucial, personal information and are demanding compensation. Whatever happens, this won’t be easy for Sony.
As we’ve said before – be vigilant. Keep a close watch on your bank account and seriously consider taking out ID Theft protection.

And there I was worrying about identity theft and credit card fraud. Thank god my trophies will be safe! ;)

I’ve worked darn hard for all seven hundred odd trophies, as I don’t have [can’t afford] many games, so I’m pretty glad they’ll remain intact. Didn’t even think about the possibility of losing them – that’d be horrific D:
Awayze
Even if you did lose them, they should be on your PS3 locally still so next time you are online, you could just resync.
cam the man
Although it’s good to know I don’t think trophies will be what most people are worried about.
gazzagb
I hadn’t even thought of my Trophies! Haha, shows how much I care about them!
SavageOranges
I don’t need to worry about identity theft as my name is Jesus Christmas on my PSN details. Still doesn’t make the situation any less grimm…
BrainDiver
Made me lol, nice one :)
I used to use false details but I guess eventually I built up the trust and been using the real ones.

Heh, I think one of my accounts is under Fakey Fakerton.

well, seeing as trophies are stored on our PS3 machines, I don’t see why anyone thought it would reset…we have to sync to the network to update trophies we’ve unlocked offline.
kjkg
Surely they are only stored on your PS3 until you upload them, then there is no longer a trace on the PS3!? Im only guessing but if they were stored on your PS3 then if you changed machine you would lose them all.
Uhyve
I believe it exists on both, so if something happens to the PSN, you can still view them and if something happens to your PS3, you can still load them on a replacement console. Like how cloud saves work.

your PS3 trophies will be the most up to date list, that’s why syncing is needed to update your online profile, at least that’s how I believe the system works.
the actual trophy count is done through the network, which is why you don’t see any change in your numbers while offline…
I just thought, it could also be that the PS3 just logs what trophies you’ve unlocked for the next sync…hmmm
MaD dOctoR 79
oh, and I think the system only works in adding trophies to your list, not deleting them, as they are tied to your account ID so if you have 3 different PS3’s it only updates the trophies you haven’t already obtained…kind of like combining two folders with the same name, and the same files but one folder has extra files added.
colossalblue
Damn, I wonder if I ask nicely will they lose my friends list for me ;)
MaD dOctoR 79
…or give us platinum’s for all those games we can’t be arsed to play anymore…maybe even add some trophies for games like Heavenly Sword :)
Broonba
All i wanna know is…..when will the PSN be back online? I’m chokin’ for some online shenanigans :D
TURRICAN-808
Too true, i reckon this weekend…
squashme
a certain dev is kinda suggesting may 3rd for the US at least PSN exclusive RTS Under Siege is being released as planned on that date

Booted up RDR and all my trophies went, i now have 1 trophy on this game which is 100% completion, hopefully they do all come back with a PSN sync. Upgraded HDD and brought PSN cards (thankfully) for PS+ and then this happened.. what a waste, hopefully PS+ deals are the same and all my money is still in my wallet, giving that I’m not hacked. Thank **** I didn’t use my CC to put funds on PSS.
TURRICAN-808
That happened to me before with Uncharted 2 trophies. I then synced trophies and they reappeared…
colmshan1990
It happens sometimes with my Buzz trophies offline.
I have a platinum, only to actually get trophies pop up, I then check my trophy list and it’s at 2% or something.
But when I sync, everything becomes ok again, and my 100% comes back.
Got really worried the first time though- it was my first (and for a long time, only) platinum!
mortuus-luna
that happened with my force unleashed 2 trophies, my rdr ones are cool thought, just been finishing them up why psn’s been done and i deleted my credit card details from the site
carson321
it would be nice if there was some form of compensation, say a small amount of credit to your wallet or a discount on the store, but to be honest, i really couldn’t give a damn, i’ll just be happy to have the network up and running again. people need to stop being so harsh on Sony
(unless it turns out their security measures were shit)
squashme
why should people stop being harsh Sony let hackers take our personal details
hi-tee
when you say ‘let’ it implies it was done on purpose. to be honest id rather its down for as long as needed in order to make the psn network safer from hackers. :)
squashme
well it was wasnt it Sony knew someone hacked PSN on the 17th but didnt turn the servers off until 3 days later when they should of turned them off on the 17th when they someone hacked PSN
carson321
Like I said, unless it turns out they were being careless with our info, Sony have just been unlucky that someone has tried hard enough and succeeded in breaking through to the network, it could have happened to any company, and I’m pretty sure I read on one of the statements that they shut down the network as soon as they had realised, although this wasn’t until after the hack had occured.
Besides, I’m sure people don’t give the government this much stick when some idiot leaves an unencrypted laptop or memory device sitting in a public place full of millions of peoples personal info…….
