PS3 To Get Oddworld Compilation

Just Add Water are working on a PS3 version of the Oddboxx, a compilation of the first four Oddworld games that’s already available on Steam (and currently an amazing £12.99).

The pack will contain Abe’s Exoddus, Abe’s Oddysee, Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath.

The PS3 version of Stranger’s Wrath will be the highlight of the bundle, although its release, now the Summer, has meant that the Oddboxx is also planned for the same sort of timescale – it was originally meant to be much sooner.

However, Just Add Water have decided to work on the version of Munch’s Oddysee, which will now be remade in HD too, alongside Stranger’s Wrath.

There’s nothing confirmed for the Xbox 360 version of Stranger’s Wrath though, due to wranglings with Microsoft.  They originally turned down the project, but Just Add Water are now in talks and making some progress.

To conclude, Just Add Water are also reviving Oddworld: Hand of Odd, a real time strategy game that was announced in 1998 but canned soon after.

“RTS games and Command & Conquer don’t particularly do well today,” JAW boss Stewart Gilray told Eurogamer this evening.

“Why don’t we look at it the other way round and say, ‘What is today’s equivalent?’ I hate to say this, but it’s the CityVilles and the FarmVilles. We’re going to try and apply a bit of that mechanic to that and see where that takes us.”

  1. it has literally been years since i played any of the oddworld games.
the first two were great games, i haven’t really played much of the xbox games, a bit of munch’s game and none of stranger’s wrath.

one funny thing always comes to mind when i think of the oddworld games though, how the third game was supposed to be all anti corporate then it ended up having a product placement deal with mountain dew, at least i think it was mountain dew.

anyway, it would have been nice if the tomb raider hd package included the ps1 games like this does.

  2. I’m in two minds about this. I’m really looking foward to this but I won’t get my missus off the PS3 when it’s released. She’s a huge Abe fan.

  3. Damn, I already bought Abe’s Oddysee from the store…although it’s crap really coz I bought it to play on PSP and coz there’s only 1 L and R button, not all of the actions work, meaning it’s unplayable…so that was a waste!

    • You can map the R2 and L2 to analog stick.
