THQ Still Has Faith In Homefront

Homefront was, for a long time, THQ’s golden child. They were predicting big things and had begun franchise-building long before the first game was on sale. To date, they’ve shipped 2.6 million copies of the game so although sales have been exceptionally strong, it hasn’t yet reached the Call of Duty-rivalling levels THQ were talking about pre-release.

In an interview today with IndustryGamers, CEO Brian Farrell has said that the publisher still has a lot of faith in the franchise, despite a very mixed critical reception.

When I think about it, if you go back and look at the original Call of Duty, how they built that, the first Call of Duty didn’t do 18 million units. The franchise was built over time, building a quality consumer experience and supporting it well. And hey, there’s a lot of room between 2.6 million units and 18

Interesting that in the same interview, Farrell cites Saints Row as a franchise to keep an eye on. With Red Faction and their recent lengthening of a deal to keep making Warhammer games, THQ have got several franchises that they could find stellar success with. They’re certainly not giving up on Homefront though.

  1. played Homefront over a friends house, did a few multiplayer games, it was one of the worst fps’s i have every played, the lag was just appauling, the game stopped for 5mins then i suddenly respawned after dieing about 5 times, just horrific, i would leave the series.

as for Call of Duty, blops is just crap, cod 4 and mw2 were the best

the best fun ive had with an FPS this from spetember 2010 has been MOH and Crysis 2

  2. It’s rubbish

  3. It’s worth putting the time in on Multiplayer. It’s a game that rewards people for going for the win. Sitting at the back of the map and sniping is not rewarding. Fits in between MW2 and BFBC2, it’s a fun game.

The 1.03 patch fixed a huge amount of problems as the 130mb size suggests. But, yes it had and still has problems.

Looking forward to some maps, that have been confirmed in the DLC. And would like more weapons.

  4. THQ,you effed up with Homefront, learn from your mistakes and invest in a new IP instead of borrowing elements from Generic FPS and Generic FPS with tanks.so basically, they plan to milk it?

    • Mate, what is it with you and publishers releasing new games. It’s not milking it. Assassin’s Creed and Homefront are successfull and have a good fanbase. That’s not milking it.
If you want to call anyone out, EA and Need for Speed.

      • Now that i thought about, the sales are enough to justify a sequel. The statment does sound like they plan to milk it but that could just my half sane mind playing tricks on me.

  5. never played the game, don’t think i ever will

  6. When its a tenner ill take chance.

  7. I knew this was going to be awful by just looking at the front cover.

And to think some PSN friends were bugging me to get it…good thing I didn’t :)
