El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron Screenshots Look Amazing

Some news screens for ‘El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron’ have surfaced, and they look absolutely fantastic. The team behind the game is comprised of people who have worked on Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and Devil May Cry – that’s quite a talent pool there!

The game is a 3rd person fantasy action title that is inspired by events in the ‘Book of Enoch’, which can be found in the Old Testament. To prevent the human race being wiped out in an apocalyptic flood the game’s protagonist, Enoch, must interject in a battle raging between Heaven and the Fallen Angels.

Guided by the Archangel Lucifel, his mission is to overcome the Fallen Angels in one heck of an almighty fist-fight.

Having played the Japanese demo I have to say it looks just as good moving as it does in the stills. The audio is also suitable atmospheric and other-worldly. In my opinion the combat does need a bit of tweaking though (a lock-on would be great), and the platforming felt a bit imprecise, so it will be interesting to see the final product.

  1. Would that be the Peep Show “Megatron”? :)

  2. Agreed, i played the demo too and found the platforming and combat would put me off buying the full game. It does look unique and quite gorgeous at times though.

  3. Another intresting fact about “Metatron”, it can repiar Jeqhuty

  4. They appear to be going for a washed out water-colour look here and I am not sure I like it. Not for a video game anyway.

  5. I love the look of this game and was planning on going for a purchase, but what you say about the gameplay is worrying, and something that I had feared.

Now correct me if I’m wrong, but the game’s already been released in Japan, so there wouldn’t be much room for improvement I’m afraid, unsure about how recent that demo was though. Still can’t help but get tempted solely by the beautiful artstyle, hopefully it’ll make its way to Europe soon and I might just go for it…

  6. Graphichs or no, it looks like there’s an abundance of non-fun to be had.

  7. Wasn’t Alan Rickman the Metatron in Dogma?

  8. Prince Of Persia mixed with Another world and Flashback from the 16-Bit era….

  9. I have played the Japanese demo, and I can say that I wasn’t even mildly impressed with the game. The combat mechanics are stiff and the graphics get repetitive soon enough.

  10. Was this not one of the games that Kovacs was really looking forward to?

The first two screenshots definitely look familiar.
