UK Charts: Brink Takes The Top Spot

In somewhat of a surprise Brink has beaten LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean to the UK Charts top spot. The game has been greeted by a wildly mixed reaction, with some loving it whilst others loathe it. The sales split weighed heavily in the favour of the Xbox, with 69% choosing that platform.

Despite not taking the top spot, the LEGO franchise remains strong with two entries in the top 10. Both FIFA 11 and Black Ops also hang on, defying logic and tearing a rift through time and space.

  1. Shame Brink is a bit….broken…ish

    • Don’t worry, f’n Zumba will be back in 1st next week. I mean seriously, WTF.

      • I can’t understand why people are saying Brink is broken, I have yet to have any problems with it.

  2. Nice to see Brink take the top spot. Easily the best team-based online shooter I’ve played in a while. I think I speak for most when I say that online lag is still a prominent issue, however.

    • i’m surprised to see it there. I expected it to be in the top ten but number 1? after the bad reviews and stories about the bugs as well as the PSN being down i thought people would have skipped it. In saying that i’m glad a shooter that makes you use your head is at the top spot. makes a nice change

      • The reviews have indeed been sporadic, the biggest complaint being the overall lack of content the game provides. When looking at preview footage of Brink, I was anticipating a lot more customisation options, and the actual story-driven campaign is way too short and almost feels token.

However, the gameplay is where it’s all at. Brink is incredibly balanced and satisfying, catering to all styles of FPS player. At the moment it’s a solid yet flawed platform; if Splash Damage can push out more maps, costumes, abilities weapons, and fictional content in the coming months, then I can see Brink becoming one of the most successful shooters of the year.

      • more costumes? blimey you don’t ask for much Jim ;-)
I think online this game is excellent but I do believe it needs more maps and some different modes instead of just objectives.

      • i’ve no doubt it’ll grow. more maps and the such would be very welcomed. i plant o pick it up when i can or at least when its all patched. had my eye on it for ages

      • Well, there are quite a few costumes, around 10 full sets for each faction, but some of them look a bit similar.

  3. L.A Noir will take Brink out fast!

    • I hope so. Not because Brink is good/bad/unworthy but I want to see more mature gaming (like Heavy Rain, LA Noire, etc) coming to the forefront of video gaming. To help the industry and the general media understand that it’s not all about the likes of Call of Duty.

      • good luck with that dude! still heavy rain got to number 1, red dead did amazingly well i’m sure this will as well. Nothing beats a good story after all

      • I’ll settle for gaming being taken seriously by the media at large and all gamers realising that there’s so much more to gaming than FPS’. Nothing wrong with it but branching out does us good from time-to-time.

  4. I wouldn’t be surprised to see lego in number 1 next week or maybe the week after. With the film out on wednesday, the extra advertising and the game being popular on the wii the sales will surely increase.

  5. Answer to the question: no. L.A Noire will most likely take other games to the cleaners next week.

    • beat brink with 2 days sales I bet.

      • I take your 2 days sales and raise you to first day sales!
I was going to answer the question the same except say that L.A.Noire may beat Red Dead Redemption if it wasn’t for the fact that RDR had multiplayer.

  6. Will pick up LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean when the price drops. No need to rush since I just got my hands on Batman Arkham Asylum and L.A. Noire will follow soon.

  7. For me Brink is hands down the biggest disappointment of the year so far. After showing so much potential, instead we ended up with generic gameplay, about 3 hours of content, horrible visuals and moronic AI. The only plus point I found while playing it this weekend is the character customisation.
LEGO Pirates on the other hand is great and I’ve played quite a bit of it with the wife. We are currently re-watching each film in turn then playing through that film on the game. Great fun :)

  8. I dropped into a few game shops at the weekend but decided to waut for LA Noire.

  9. I’m glad to see Red Dead Redemption redeeming itself. I do like a bit of zombie shooting

  10. Ha, my contributions to this list on not significant. I bought Killzone 3, Start the Party, Sports Champions [you see what I have now], Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and Final Fantasy VI Advance. XD
