First Dead Island Gameplay Footage Released

I can understand your trepidation with regard to Dead Island.

Sure, that first trailer looked snazzy, but we’ve had plenty of zombie games (and films, and TV series, and books, and children’s toys) over the past couple of years. “Maybe it’s time to let the whole zombie thing rest for a bit,” I hear you cry. Sure, we could do that. But then we’d miss out on Dead Island which, from the first gameplay footage released today, looks to be totally awesome.

The ten-minute-plus video, posted on GameTrailers, shows zombies being shot at, zombies being run over, and zombies being blown up with makeshift sticky bombs, as well as plenty of pretty island scenery. Listen out for the commentary by Vincent Kummer, brand manager at the game’s publisher Deep Silver, for some worrying holiday preferences, talk of the game’s four-player co-op, and the first time I’ve ever heard the word ‘bungalow’ in a dev diary.

  1. it looks like far cry, borderlands, dead rising and test drive unlimited had a super baby

  2. It looks nice but for some reason I don’t feel enthusiastic about it. Saying that, co-op could be a good laugh. I remember getting together with a few mates for a lan party, trying to get the co-op patch for Far Cry working – a disaster.

  3. Looks like my kind of thing. Yeah, some of the speech parts look a little poor, but the zombie-hacking looks great.

    Other than that I think it won’t live up to the trailers. Looks ok so far.

  5. I’m not keen on the fact that it’s in first person. That’s surely gonna make for many an annoying occurance of Zombies you can’t see sneaking up on you!

    VO was terrible, sounded like it was heing read straight from script

  9. It looks ok. Not too impressed with the character models tbh, but I’m liking the look of the gameplay.

  10. even if this game doesn’t live up to expectationsit has a hell of a lot of potentail and hopefully some over developers will pick up on this. A great looking twist on some genres that are starting to get old
