Rumour: New Edition To Bring Trophies To Oblivion?

On Monday, we brought you the news that The Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion would be getting a re-release in the form of the ‘5th Anniversary Edition’, ahead of Skyrim’s debut later this year. With the boxart now posted over at Amazon, it looks like trophies may well be included in this new edition of the game.

Of course, trophies would be a nice addition to the game – the question of their inclusion was the very first comment on that announcement post – but up to now, re-releases of older games on the PS3 have not usually been updated. As spotted by PSLS, the back of the new silver boxart shows ‘trophies’ alongside ‘add-on content’ in the PlayStation Network banner.

Now don’t get all too excited – we had almost exactly the same situation with Metal Gear Solid 4 last year and it turned out to be a typo. The difference though is the MGS4 re-release was just for the budget ‘Greatest Hits’ line in the US, whereas this is a fully-fledged ‘ultimate edition’ of Oblivion.

Take it with a pinch of salt of course until we get clarification from Bethesda, but this could just be the reason you were looking for to play through one of the greatest western RPGs of recent times all over again.

  1. Although i loved the game when it was first released on the PS3 but i tried it a few weeks ago and this game has seriously aged. The controls felt horrible! :( But with the addition of trophies, it might be worth playing through the awesome game again even with what i believe now are clunky controls!

  2. Im really excited but also a bit gutted! completed the GOTY edition twice and probably wouldn’t be far off platinum-ing, also had 2 PS3’s with YLOD so lost in total about 80hrs of gameplay combined….

  3. I still have big reservations on this one. MGS’s new box art was also released saying trophies inclusded but this turned out to be false as it is the standard box art they put on all mock ups.

    • Oops, that’s what I get for not reading the article before posting haha. Apologies.

  4. Dammit, I recently DID another playthrough, just for kicks. Now I’ll have to do it again!
    *what a bummer* hehe

  5. Looks like the same mistake with MGS. Don’t get your hopes up high. Sadly, hardly any games were “updated” with trophies (GT4, Warhawk, Uncharted, BFBC and Super Stardust HD to my memory, and this was all right after trophies were introduced: I can’t remember any later – say, two years ago – trophy updates), which is a missed opportunity for extra sales, imo.

  6. Whoooo yes skibadee message me about this so had to see it as fast as I could lol.
Brilliant I love Oblivion and wouldn’t mind playing it over again.

  7. Trophies or no trophies, this is one of THE best games ever made.
To anybody thinking of buying it……trust me, you won’t regret the purchase ;)

    • Are you finished yet? If you want to rant, use the forums, otherwise, stop clogging the comments with your vitriol.

      • Yeah, I agree with Al here – A well thought out forum thread about why you think that x game is better than y game & the reasons why is a much better idea than populating a front page article with the same repeated nonsense.

You never know, you might spark a discussion & find that a number of other people agree with you.

  9. I will gladly play it again to get the trophies. I already purchased it because it would be like $50 to get the game and DLC. I missed the expansions on 360, but I am now waiting till the patch, if it doesn’t get trophies I will replay it over time to experience the DLCs then re-gift it to some lucky kid in my family. lol. Great game though.
