Paramount Announces Star Trek

Trekkies, rejoice: Paramount’s got your back. Looks like Star Trek has landed, and – for the first time ever – players will play as Kirk and Spock.

The game continues the plot from the recent film, but is apparently ‘stand alone’ and ‘action packed’.  “Star Trek challenges the boundaries of co-op gameplay with a galactic adventure that gamers and fans have never experienced,” said Tom Lesinski, President of Paramount Digital Entertainment.

“Working closely with the Star Trek filmmaking team throughout development, the game is sure to deliver AAA production values, a wide variety of gameplay and all the action you would expect from the hit franchise. This will be the definitive Star Trek gaming experience.”

That bit was full of italics.  We teleported them onto a nearby planet.

Star Trek will feature a story by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk with input from Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the guys behind the new Star Trek films.  Digital Extremes (The Darkness II) are on coding duties.

  1. I’m not a Trekkie by any stretch but I do enjoy me some Star Trek. Always though they could make an awesome game but one has never materialised. The parties involved gives it a promising start so it’ll be interesting to see how it comes along. Wonder if it’ll be 3rd person, first person, sandboxy…

    • I’m the same. Although I’m probably more of a trekkie than I want to believe. But I’ll be intrigued to see how this pans out.

      • It would be nice if the game was similar to Mass Effect 2 exploration missions

      • A Star Trek style Mass Effect would be perfect. That’s a brilliant shout.

      • I described ME2 to a friend as like playing through Star Trek! Hopefully they’ll do it right.

  2. Kind of nerdy for saying this but there was an original series point and click adventure by interplay way back when where you could play as both Kirk and Spock.

I just hope they gouge some alien’s eyes out with a spoon and then rip off it’s nads, if only to make Kratos proud.

  3. Interesting, quite enjoyed the film despite having never really been into Star Trek beforehand. It’s good to see both that they haven’t rushed this out like a typical movie tie-in (hopefully it will live up to there AAA claim), and also love me a bit of co-op :)

  4. Not a Star Trek fan but maybe that’s the reason why I enjoyed the Star Trek reboot. If the devs work closely together with the new film makers then this could end in nerd rage since from what I heared, real Star Trek fans hated the new movie. As for me: It’s wait and see.

  5. Oh dear, the E3 news has started already!

  6. Oh sweet dreams, you are finally coming true! Say it loud, I’m a trekkie and I’m proud!

  7. Its being made by Digital Extremes, they also did Dark Sector, which was a competant 3rd person supernatural shooter. I hope the devs use an improved dark sector engine for Star Trek. I now have high hopes for this star trek game :)

  8. Could be ace.

  9. anyone else suspect that reebok and kodak are secretly owned by klingons?….no? just me then.

  10. Agreed about the ME2 comments. If it’s Mass Effect in the Star Trek world then I will fully geek out, hopefully they dont mess it up….
