PSN Breach: Anonymous Arrested

The New York Times is reporting that three members of the ‘shadowy international network of computer hackers known as Anonymous’ have been arrested in Spain. The source of the news is a statement from the Spanish National Police.

A 31-year-old man from the city of Almería was arrested sometime after May 18th and police found a server in his apartment that was used to attack the Sony group of websites including the PS Store. Two other suspects were arrested in Barcelona and Valencia.

The Police say the same computer was also used to attack ‘two Spanish banks, BBVA and Bankia, the Italian energy company Enel, as well as government sites in Spain, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Iran, Chile, Colombia and New Zealand’.

Spanish police have analysed over two million lines of chat logs and web pages to identify the ‘hacktavists’.

We’ll keep you posted on any further news.

  1. Yay, that’s satisfying alright!

  2. I wonder if they will be able to find out whether our personal data was sold on now. Well done Mr Policeman!

  3. It wasn’t American Xbots then? LoL

    • No North America haven’t been creating top secret robots with X’s.
I’m sure Japan have a few with golden V’s on their heads (holy zaku 30 days, till Gundam 3)

      • Japan has the Metal gears, the giant robots, the giant sword wielding and overpowered warriors.Oh god we are effed if they try to take over the worlld.:op. Is xbot a new code name for a giant robot that shoots lasers out of it’s eyes but spends it’s time playing games instead?;o)

    • “American Xbots”? Really? smh

  4. I think its worth pointing out that these people were obviously determined to do some damage and not just to Sony, they have attacked a number of organisations here. They have probably got a lot of data and details from them, however I haven’t seen anything mentioned about the breach of these organisations security to the same degree and feverish levels as the coverage of the PSN attack did.

I am glad that some progress has been made with catching the people responsible, however I hope we all take a step back next time and don’t all come down on Sony or whoever happens to be the victim with such a force as last time.

    • Check the next article – Codemasters has been hacked now too. Time to test your theory.

      • Not only were they (Codies) hacked, but the same kind of info was stolen, and they’ve taken 7 days to notify people. People blasted Sony for waiting 24-48 hours!

    • “…I haven’t seen anything mentioned about the breach of these organisations security to the same degree and feverish levels as the coverage of the PSN attack did”
You wont. Banks are hacked every single day but they wont tell you about it.
I work for large IT company and have worked on contracts in several major banks, including on-line only, and have too many stories about security breaches than I care to recall. A lot of the people breaching IT security do it so they can boast to the target bank and then ask for a job in their IT Security Team. So deluded.

  5. Great news :) About time these morons learn that their actions do have consequences. I’m sure these guys will tell the police everything they know about other hackers of their group to save their own ass, so we’ll hopefully see more arrests soon.

  6. Its a good job they were not caught here in the UK by our beloved English police. Otherwise, they might have been put in jail for 2 weeks with a £60 fine…

    • – only to plead guilty & get a reduced sentence.

    • LOL, and then the courts would decide that making them stay in a cell and pay a small fine is against their ‘human rights’. So they’d just get released and be given a council house. :)

      • Not just a council house, but a car, treatment for their ‘Issues’, and even a first go at any future crimes that people such as them are obviously well within their ‘human rights’ to commit…

  7. Hopefully the prison doesnt have games consoles in, like some prisons. These guys are surely looking at (playstation)life.

  8. I really didn’t think that they’d ever catch anyone. Great stuff!

  9. good stuff.

  10. Great news!
