PSN Breach: Anonymous Arrested

The New York Times is reporting that three members of the ‘shadowy international network of computer hackers known as Anonymous’ have been arrested in Spain. The source of the news is a statement from the Spanish National Police.

A 31-year-old man from the city of Almería was arrested sometime after May 18th and police found a server in his apartment that was used to attack the Sony group of websites including the PS Store. Two other suspects were arrested in Barcelona and Valencia.

The Police say the same computer was also used to attack ‘two Spanish banks, BBVA and Bankia, the Italian energy company Enel, as well as government sites in Spain, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Iran, Chile, Colombia and New Zealand’.

Spanish police have analysed over two million lines of chat logs and web pages to identify the ‘hacktavists’.

We’ll keep you posted on any further news.

  1. Be interesting to know what part they played; just part of the mindless DDoS or something more sophisticated?

  2. With all these hacks going on – Sony and now Codemasters and countless others unreported – is the internet safe for business? Surely the mantra these days is “encrypt with really strong security” as computers are getting faster, plus upgrading security practices so that they (and human fallibility) cannot be exploited as easily as they have been in the past.

  3. Hmm… good, but every time I see that something was used to attack Sony, I just imagine man senselessly chipping away at a Sony building using a keyboard :D

  4. Today is a sad day for me, as a spaniard, i wish i was a cop raiding their homes… Oh, I swear i wish!!!

  5. Great news, bet there’s still more out there that were responsible for the attack though.

    HAHAHA. HA.

    HA.

  7. serves them right. Thank PS3 that they weren’t arrested here as they would be sent to a hoilday camp as a “punishment”. I hope the police can get the hacker to spill the beans on the rest of Anon which ends up getting them all arrested.:D

  8. This looks to me like the Anonymous name being used just to tar the group (as if it needed it right now); small ops like this aren’t the work of Anon, they’re the work of an asshat or small group of asshats – Anon is much bigger. After all, this headline is from the New York Times; anyone expecting the full truth from the American press is deluded.

Chuffed to the pants that they’ve finally started making arrests; not chuffed that it’s being used as an opportunity to try and tar the Anon name.

    • Full truth from the American press? Surely that implies that the Americans are the only ones who would do such a thing? Last I heard, the British weren’t that good either, with the Sun being owned by a single multibillionaire media mogul, and the Mirror being used at every opportunity to smear the Conservatives in government purely because it’s funded by the left-leaning Labour Party?

The point is, all media outlets censor the “truth”, whatever that is. Even Wikileaks. Notice how it announces fresh batches of information set to embarrass governments, yet never makes mention of stuff that might show them in a good light?

And Anonymous as well. Notice how they are “attack, attack, attack” all the time? They go after the “evil” corporation. The corporation that is so evil they have made so many people (gamers) happy. God forbid they might make a profit on the side. God forbid they might want to protect their interests. But never does Anonymous stop and think “hmm, instead of trying to bring down governments, I know they might not be perfect, but I’ll try to work with them to make the world a better place!”

The kicker is, that no censorship would be needed if nobody was there to abuse it and then kick up a fuss when the privilege is taken away. Self fulfilling prophecy, much?

  9. i’m glad they caught some of the scumbags responsible for these hacks.

but i find it more than a little disturbing the way people are almost gleefully suggesting these people deserve to get raped in prison.

i hope they serve them real hard time, but it’d take a much more serious crime before i’d wish rape on a person.
    if i ever did.

  10. Death penalty. Simples.
