MCV are running with an interesting piece this morning with regards to the gaming industry expecting a fresh wave of console price cuts to reinvigorate the UK market. Sony is expected to make an announcement at Gamescom, bringing the PS3’s rrp down to £199.99. Retailers may cut that even further, to £180.
Speaking to MCV, Codemasters boss Rod Cousens had the following to say:
“It’ll probably happen around September and Gamescom may be interesting. But there’s also time for a further cut next year, before Wii U is out.”
If this does happen you can bet Microsoft will respond, and it also raises the question of what price bracket Nintendo plans to place the Wii U in. Nintendo’s new baby may come with a fancy controller, but a PS3 at £180 is an extremely tempting prospect.

My old faithful friend is on her last legs so I hope this (and the new model) comes as soon as possible. I’m very tempted to replace mine every time I switch it on and it sounds like a hovercraft.

i still dont get why they dont release a ps3 bundle with playtv and the bluray remote. thats the sort of thing my parents would consider getting to have 1 box to play dvd/bluray and work as a decent tv recorder, not to mention iplayer 4od etc. and once the box is under the tv theyd be bound to buy other bits and peices like singstar and some of the quiz games

I love the idea of this, but I just can’t help but feel that pricing the PS3 so far below Vita could be a little bit awkward?
Though I suppose the PS2 was at a similar level when the PSP was released and that didn’t really cause too many problems..
