Sony’s Jack Buser, Director of PlayStation Home, has been discussing who the average user of PlayStation Home really is. The virtual world was built as a platform for both the casual and hardcore gamer to meet new people online. However, it’s clear that one demographic crowd the virtual space over any other.
“If you look at the average Home user, they are the most hardcore gamer on the PS3. They buy more games than the average PS3 user, they play more games than the average PS3 user. We’re talking about rabid consumers of media and hardcore gamers. That’s who these people are.”
Buser explains that while some users visit “between games”, others are “literally spending their lives inside of PlayStation Home”.
Home has seen record numbers following the PSN downtime, which made Buser and the rest of the PlayStation team very happy indeed.
“We were watching the numbers and we were just so excited. We were just dancing in the streets. The numbers are through the roof. I think it speaks to the loyalty of our user base, and to the power of these kinds of platforms.”

It’s an interesting feature and one i visited almost daily for the first year but then i just switched off and have re-visited it only a handful of times since.
Whenever i hover over the icon on the XMB now, i consider the time and Hdd space that will be used downloading and installing it and so i usually just skip it but i’ve still got my saved game and might have a look in again sometime.

I think I would find Home to be more enjoyable if my character could run or do something with simple clicks. I don’t like having to nav menus to get my char to do something. The fact that it takes forever to get anywhere is the main reason why I continue to put the game on the back burner.

i went on home 2 days ago, i noticed that i have 2 appartments which is cool, created a character and then turned off XD btw is the red bull flight thing still going as that used to be awesome?

So hardcore gamers don’t play games when they’re on their PS3s? I’m confused. I don’t go into Home because when I have some PS3 time I want to play games. Clearly I’m not hardcore :)

I went on there a few times. Once i realised not a single soul could match my Pool skills it was erased and never to be seen again.
God knows what it is like now. Could be good but i bought my PS3 to play full games and watch movies. Im still doing that without any virtual world where everyone is an MC Hammer/ Crazed Stalker hybrid.

I havent been on HOME since a week after it came out. In my house, I stacked up chairs outside to get a nice good view of the place. And I tried to have a game of chess but it failed. Basically nothing has appealed to me, my friend goes on primarily just to insult and annoy people in a joking way, which is the only thing which could bring me back.
Also i uninstalled home so can’t be bothered to reinstall it.
Good idea, but not for me.
