EA Closing 17 Online Servers

EA is gearing up to hack away some of its dead weight with the closure of 17 multiplayer servers with games such Skate, Army of Two, and Need for Speed Most Wanted set for the chop. The global publisher explained that under one percent of online peak time throughout EA’s entire gallery is spent playing the games listed below. The company will begin closing the servers as soon as next month, maintenance costs being cited as another reason for the mass closures; funds will hopefully be redirected into upcoming projects.

  1. No real surprise those but EA better leave the burnout paradise servers on forever ;) or at least until there’s a worthy successor

    • Should be safe for a good while yet as there has been a resurgence in the people that are playing the game online since the free download appeared on the PSN+ store….Hell, I’ve regularly seen 70-90 lobbies live with new players coming onboard ;)

  2. The original Skate on PS3 had dreadful frame rate online anyway, so I can’t imagine many people playing it when Skate 2 and 3 exist. Most of the other games are pretty ancient as well, so I don’t think there will be too many complaints about this round of shut-downs.

  3. Battlefield 2142 Demo for PC!!! bloody hell that’s still up? lol n1 EA!

  4. Most of the games on the list have had a yearly counterpart come out or a sequel. Bloodly hell EA,i thought you had shut down the servers for the BF2142 demo. I suspect it is to save costs or they intend to use those servers for the newest addition of those games.

  5. Shame about Battlefield2 . I still occasionally fire up my 360 copy and chip away at the (almost impossible) achievement list.

  6. I am confused, if they are shutting down Madden NFL 10, what about 09? 08?…
