Shadows of the Damned/Child of Eden June Sales Figures Revealed

More sales figures are trickling out of the North American June NPD, and they aren’t particularly encouraging.

Child of Eden, which we claimed was a “triumph” in our review, managed to sell a meagre 34,000 copies on the Xbox 360.  Shadows of the Damned, which scored a healthy 8/10 in our review, did even worse selling 24,000 copies on the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined.

To put that into perspective, Zelda on the 3DS sold over 283,000 copies. Then again, Zelda was backed by a robust marketing campaign both in-store and on the TV. In contrast some people didn’t even know SotD and CoE had been released.

  1. I sure didn’t.

  2. For my part, Shadows of the Damned was hard to get a grasp on pre-release – “what kind of game is this really?” (I thought it looked a bit RPG-ey, and I never had the time to go googling for gameplay footage or read in-depth previews).
When I finally understood what it was all about, it was too late to pre-order, and then it automatically became too expensive for me (I buy games almost exclusively on pre-order bargains and trade-in deals). I probably will get around to buying it, but most likely not for a couple of months.

    • Having played it I would say Bayonetta cross Devil May Cry and about as Mexican as a Old el Paso Fajita pack.

  3. The only place I could find SotD was to rent in Blockbuster. Which is what I did and I’m glad as I didn’t enjoy it.

  4. To be honest how often does a game come out that you’ve never heard of AND is any good?

    • These days its pretty rare, but Mini Ninjas, The Saboteur and de Blob 2 spring to mind, and Katamari in the PS2 era.

  5. Bridge of tits!

Sorry, just thought I’d mention the awesome bosom-bridge again. I may still be drunk from last night’s celebrations. Hmm.

  6. uh oh. i feel bad for missing them now

  7. I am yet to pick up Shadows Of The Damned. Might get it this week.

    • SotD. Just waiting for the price to drop, it’s on my list though.

  8. I didn’t even know that this existed. you can’t not advertise and expect to shift millions of copies. Zelda was always going to do well as it is one of Ninty’s flagship titles and had a lot of marketing. I don’t think i even saw these games in Gamestation yesterday when i went in there.:o I would say it is a result of bad timing but no notable games have came out in the past few weeks.(i think there has been none unless i have somehow missed them)

I think the publishers that publishers SOTD and COE are just being lazy by not marketing it. Bad publishers, now go and sit in the naughty corner and no tea for you.

  9. :O. Thats horrible. Once again, publishers didn’t do enough advertising to make people aware of these games, and they will blame the developers for poor sales and not themselves. Portal and Portal 2 did amazingly well because Valve believed in their product, other publishers have no excuse.

    I hope Q? Entertainment will be okay…

  10. A demo would have helped too people could have tried them. If there is no demo you could start thinking do they have something to hide do they even believe in their own game
