Hitting the Official PlayStation Magazine’s rumour column this month is the much-anticipated parkour ’em up, Mirror’s Edge 2. According to the mag, “the Frostbite 2 engine will pave the way for Mirror’s Edge to make a free-running return,” agreeing with previous rumours spurred by Electronic Arts VP, Patrick Soderlund, that EA and DICE still have plans for a sequel.
Despite hauling an impressive Metacritic average of 79, Mirror’s Edge failed to connect with consumers back in 2009, leaving fans concerned for the IP’s future. However, at every opportunity EA has denied that the franchise is about to be shelved, insisting Faith and The Runners will return, but when?

Ha, I reckon (because of the long lead times) that the rumor in OPM was simply commentating on things that Soderlund said and now it’s doing the rounds again………………just speculating, of course ;)

Pretty much. This seems to happen every month with PSM3 etc, they just pick up on internet rumours but somehow it’s more believeable if it’s in print two months later.

Finished ME for about the 25th time yesterday. This sequel NEEDS to happen.

Last thing I read in a PS3 mag was that they wanted to do a sequel but were trying to get the idea and story right and not have it just a rehash of the first one.

Hopefully it isn’t as boring as the first.

Im still kinda interested, is there a demo on the PS Store for the first?
hazelam
i think there was.
i’m sure i played the demo.
Rocket_345
There was bit they’ve had a massive clear-up on the store of old demo’s so it may not be there anymore.
bacon_nuts
Oh right, thanks for the info, I’ll check it out tomorrow anyways.

true story, i was at the cinema waiting for captain america to start, cool film by the way, and a battlefield 3 ad came up, with the press quote about how beautiful the frostbite engine is.
and i was thinking, i’d love to see that engine used for something other than a grim and gritty war game.
i think something like mirror’s edge with the frostbite engine could truly be beautiful.
course it needs a third person option if i’m gonna play it.
not just because i don’t think platforming works in first person, though that is what i think, but because i’d like to be able to play it without feeling physically sick.
Rocket_345
Personally i hope they keep it as first person as thats what made the first unique. It wouldn’t bother me if an option, as you said, for third person was added but if they scrap first person totally then i won’t be happy.
hazelam
i’d only want a third person mode as an option, i know many people don’t have a problem with motion sickness playing the game and enjoy the first person parkour stuff.
i wouldn’t want them to take anything away, just add another option.
i’m generally in favour of adding options, not taking them away.

They are using fb2 for other Ea games. Need for speed the run will be running on it and I wouldn’t be suprosed if they used it for all there big realeses

I loved the concept but didn’t get on well with the original, a sequel could improve things.

Mirrors Edge 2? YES PLEASE! More co-op, maybe even some kinect/move support for the fun of it, why not. If EA market this much like dead space 2 was to dead space 1 then I think it will sell greatly!
Loxstokk
I think if they did a second game, it could benefit from more variation in the environments. A bit like Portal 2 dud after Portal 1
