It seems a good number of decided to go and play in the dirt this week, with a nice mixture of view shown when I went through the thread in the forums. It’s always good to see some differences in opinion as I go through, so with that said let’s get to the opinions themselves.
So normally I like to start with something positive about a game, but this week I thought I’d mix things up a little and get to the negativity at the start so we can build up to a high note. Sounds good doesn’t it? Sadly DiRT 3 doesn’t actually sound that good itself, at least if we take stanley1664’s word for it.
I brought this on launch & its just been gathering dust pretty much ever since.. I was expecting a pure rally game. Dont like the gymkhana stuff hate the loading times and short stages, lack of car settings/options. way to much DLC content which could of been added to the game from day one. codies are just trying to make as much cash as they can from fans.. I would really like to see a top rally game to come out soon for driving sim fans.
Overall that doesn’t exactly sound like the most positive view of Codemaster’s newest racing entry. Of course it certainly would be nice to see a more full on sim game, perhaps a rally game in the style of Forza or Gran Turismo.
Staying with the negative views for a moment let’s turn to cam the man’s opinion of the game. I can certainly sympathise with his view on level capping, it’s a frustration across a whole raft of games.
…why did they decide to have the maximum driving level at 30. You can reach level 30 long before you complete all of the single player events, which takes away the replay value. With Dirt2 I replayed a lot of the events and managed to get my driver level to 100. The ‘bonus race objectives’ are pointless, once you’ve passed 25 for the trophy, and reached level 30, there’s no use for them.
Anyway enough of the negativity, time to get to some people with more upbeat view of DiRT 3. Mickey2010 cast their eye over the game and found it started to meet up to their expectations, beating out its predecessors. Of course it’s not all good though.
To be honest it’s great the graphics are better,the enviroments look beautiful especially the Kenya track! compared to the previous two Dirt games the way you drive and handle a car seem so much better it’s 10 times as hard as its previous games.The new Gymkhana (don’t know if it’s spelt correctly) events are tricky and take a very long time to master! Online’s fun as always but the thing that grates me is you cant completely win a section unless you buy the race from the Playstation store or Live marketplace which is really frustrating!
That locking of content certainly sounds frustrating, I can understand putting up a whole section for purchase but blocking completion unless you buy a race is just a little unfair in my opinion.
Finally to Manorhowze, with a very positive opinion of the rallying title. However whilst they absolutely love it, you’ll feel at least a little sorry for them by the end of the review.
I loved DiRT 2 so was really looking forward to this game. It has improved on DIRT 2 in many areas but retains the same feel, which was crucial for me. The new party modes have added something different and while I can understand why some people dont get on with them I think its great to throw in something different. Cat n Mouse is a revelation as its so much fun with a good group of people and always results in some form of hilarity. Usually involving everyone bullying me.
Poor Manorhowze, I suspect it’ll be the same when I get into Forza 3’s Tag mode. Anyway, onto the verdict. Eleven of you put in your two pence this week and there was a pretty good split. However, there was still a very clear opinion at the end of the day. Whilst two of you said it was worth a Rent and three said it’s worth grabbing from the Bargain Bin there were six of you who said you should go and Buy DiRT 3.
So there you have it, go and grab DiRT 3.

Didn’t get time to do this but i’d definitely say buy it as well, it’s brilliant. I think the graphics are absolutely incredible and are far above any other rally game i’ve seen. The gameplay is good fun and online it’s brilliant fun with friends. The only thing i would say that the little triangles are very dragged out and long.

It’s a good game but it feels like shareware. So much advertising (for DC Shoes in particular) and they just shove the DLC in your face. On top of that, there just aren’t that many tracks. Dirt 2 was better all around.

Started writing a mini review for this but totally forgot to finish it. I agree about the ‘too much DLC’ comment. You’d be on for spending close to £70 if you bought the game at full price as well as all the DLC. The driving is great fun and as Manor said the party games are a hoot, for getting just for them IMO (especially at the very cheap prices DiRT3 can be had for now).

I think Codies need to forget about the truck and buggie racingand even possibly the trailblazer events and just stick with rally, rallyx and head2head for finals. Gymkhana is fun but I could live without it.

Agreed…and the proper rally stages could be longer – Colin McRae 2 on PSOne was awesome and unfortunately DiRT has slowly moved away from this.

Great game and under £16 in the Game sale.
However, VERY annoyed about the amount of DLC…it seems they left so much out of the original game deliberately. Great for people who buy it cheap…and they can buy all the DLC and still be cheaper than what I paid on release day. That’ll learn me for being loyal to Codies. Thanks a bunch!
