Saints Row: The Third Has ’40 Weeks Of DLC’

At a keynote presentation at ‘Cloud Gaming USA’ in San Jose, THQ CEO Brian Farrell spoke of new business models and ‘an online digital ecosystem.’

He also revealed that Saints Row: The Third will have more than 40 weeks of DLC. That’s forty, four-zero, not four.

Farrell said that the DLC ‘will grow and change the experience as the consumer engages with the game.’

  1. Day 1 buyer still, theres no way I’m missing out on what looks like a great game just because of this.

They can release as much dlc as they like! I’m not forced to buy it am I.

Does make me laugh how every has jumped on there high horses without actually knowing any real concrete set details! Makes me laugh how people assume it’s guns and outfits, and even songs for the radio!? where do you get that sort of idea from.

Also anyone boycotting this game now, good luck I’m sure the few dozen of you doing this will have a real impact on there sale figures.

  2. wow there’s a lot of people jumping all over this…you might want to hold off and wait till you have all the facts.

you are all expecting this to be stuff that should have been in the game, yet you have no idea what the dlc is yet.

damn, no wonder why gamers get saddled with the “games are for kids” bullshit…calm down.

  3. Just maybe, some of us are sick of being ripped off. The advent of the online pass reduced the number of games I bought full price due to reduced trade in value, knowing that the game is incomplete ( they can hardly release borderlands quality dlc every week for 40 weeks) pushes this to the back of my queue. I can afford roughly half the games I want in the next 4 months so I’ll pick and choose. Does this guy honestly believe announcements like this will help sales?

    • Your ripping yourself of by not enjoying the games due to principles.

oh and announcements like this are red by a tiny Insy little fraction of the gaming Market, not everyone reads online forums news etcetc. so I doubt it will much of an effect on sales… well apart from loosing out to the hardcore protesters who refuse to buy this game cause of well yeah etcetc.

      • …not to mention the insane amount of stuff that is already in the game (which can be seen all over youtube and various other sites) the wrestling portion already looks better than any other wrestling game of the last few years…plus that TRON-esque level looks sweet.

I think their sales are pretty safe.

      • I fail to see how I’m ripping myself off here. I’m going to buy War in the North instead, all that has happened is that due to my own choice, I won’t pay full price for Saints Row 3. It doesn’t mean I won’t buy it and/or enjoy it later.

    • well, I have to say it…it’s the people who think of the trade in value of a game that started all this shit in the first place.

  4. Dear god!

The lightbulb has just popped up above my head.

To everyone jumping on the bandwagon of were being ripped off, the game isn’t complete etcetc.

    a) we don’t what the dlc is
    b) we don’t know how much is going to cost and ….. wait for it…

    c) who has stated this is paid for content, it could be free!!

  5. Well if it’s free, I won’t care, but if this DLC costs an arm and a leg, then they won’t see a cent from me.

  6. I’m yet to fully understand what’s meant by this exactly. I’d be a little worried if I was bothered about this game, possibly a rental or sub $20 game, but this 40 weeks of DLC business has me confused.

  7. So far everything said here is fair comment, but can be summed up with ‘chill for a bit folks’. If the DLC is (as is v likely) largely new clothes for your character, then when one you see in the store raises a smile, put your 79p down so you can dress like ghandi or mr bean or a giant flea or whatever it is. If it is a bunch of cool missions, yeah sure shame is wasn’t in the main game, but maybe it didn’t fit in the main game etc and is v different (which it should be for sure). Given the size of SR2, if SR3 is not big enough, then maybe you have somethign to get upset about.

  8. I don’t even understand how churning out DLC every 40 weeks is a viable option. From what I can tell from doing some research it’s based similarly on the model that ‘free’ iPhone games work on. Micro transactions. It will be interesting to see how profitable it is and how other games may try to implement a similar business model on the big Consoles and PC in the future. Personally it’s not for me, I find it a little frustrating that if a game developer has all this content, why not just release it with the original game, and then they can focus all their efforts on creating something new and innovative!
