Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Beta Dated

DICE has today announced that the Battlefield 3 multiplayer beta will open to all gamers on September 29. The beta is set in Paris on the Operation Metro map, where players work their way from parks on the outskirts of the city to a dark, bombed-out metro station, to the vibrant streets around the Paris stock exchange.

Two elite tactical units square off in the series’ popular Rush Mode. One side takes the offensive by attacking M-COM stations while the opposing squad defends and protects.

  1. awesome :) can’t wait to play it. But my MOH Limited Edition was a bit of a lie?

    • I’m guessing it will open on the 27th for moh buyers? as they already said that it would be a 48h exclusive.

      • not all a lie then :) thats good to know

      • found this on the ea site :)

THOSE THAT HAVE ALREADY PRE-ORDERED THE PC DIGITAL DOWNLOAD VERSION OF BATTLEFIELD 3 THROUGH ORIGIN OR OWN THE LIMITED/TIER 1 EDITION OF MEDAL OF HONOR FOR XBOX 360, PLAYSTATION 3 OR PC, WILL HAVE EARLY ACCESS STARTING ON SEPTEMBER 27TH.

      • thanks :) looking forward to the 27th

  2. Hmm, presumed it would be on caspian border. Nevermind, i just hope the awful balance issues have been addressed.

    • well thats it, how can they test it online now? Can’t test the servers or anything. You know it will be released with bugs galore now and lag ahoy !

      • Agreed. Stupid time to release a beta. Should have been a couple of months ago.

      • that was what the alpha was for. this is essentially a multiplayer demo like most betas these days

      • As was the alpha, in reality it was just to stress test battlelog, they knew what changes would be demanded by the community and wanted to give the impression otherwise.

  3. NO NO NO NO NO NO. I’m going away to uni on the 23rd and can’t take mr playstation for the first term (at least). Think of all the betas and releases I’ll be missing. Christmas break will be busy.

    • You call your PS3 ‘Mr Playstation’??

      Insane, but kinda cool.

    • Making friends or PS3… Are you sure you’ve made the right choice?

      • Sadly, it wasn’t a choice. :(

      • You can do both lol. Make friends and take a PS3/360.

  4. massive FAIL from EA/DICE. Why test the game on the same map/game mode the alpha was on. They need to test Conquest with all vehicles to make sure it works properly and nothing is over powered. Its a stupid idea from EA/DICE. Basically just a DEMO for the COD players I think.

    • Don’t worry, if there are any problems they’ll just do a retrospective patch. It’s the norm now.

      • and I’m sure they’ve had loads of private testing to make sure nothings over/underpowered and all maps play well. they have a lot of experience.

    • I don’t know why you’re so surprised, they did the exact same thing with Bad Company 2. They claimed it was a beta but really it was just a demo. And why is it /just/ for the CoD players? None of the Battlefield fans going to bother playing it?

      • what I mean for COD players is that, if they try the beta/demo on conquest, it will overwhelm them because its a massively different game, probably get owned and put them off. So having rush where its a bottleneck for infantry, its better/easier for them.

      • So you want less people to buy/play the game? Not only that, but you think it’s impossible for anyone who’s played CoD to be good at Conquest? Christ almighty….

      • i’d say conquest is simpler for cod players then rush as its essentially ‘domination’? from cod.

      • No i’m not saying that at all. I’m saying if you haven’t played Battlefield before and you play a Demo/beta of conquest, it could potentially put those players off as its completely different. I’m not saying they are stupid or anything, I’m saying its probably a tactical thing, to bring more players in, as Rush is more TDM with one additional objective and one vehicle on that map.

      • Bad Company 2 had a beta AND an online demo. Dunno where you got the idea that they were the same thing…

      • people need to read all the comments, and read them properly. Pointless replying otherwise

  5. Better play this a lot on the 29th….as Fifa 12 the next day, whoop! Whoop!

    • With you there Youles! Though I’m hoping that I might get a slightly early FIFA pre-order through the post from Shopto.

      • Yes, but then you will have problems. This way, my gaming decision is made for me! :)

      • Planning on getting my first fifa since ’09 this year. The demo for ’12 was awesome :D

      • The choice of game of which play is made slightly easier by my 6 year old son – I can play FIFA during the day and Battlefield demo when he’s tucked up in bed.

      • Ah I see. Yeah, BF3 might be a little brutal for his age! :)

Yeah demo was good, I’ve got a few mates coming over (with beers, obviously) to have a good Fifa session.

  6. Beta? Isn’t this just a glorified demo? Surely they’ve already got a final build and can’t be far away from pressing the discs.

Not that I’m complaining – be nice to see how it plays

    • I’d assume so. most games this size take month to print and ship to stores although they’ll probably tweak it a bit and give it a day one patch.

    • Perhaps they call it a Beta so people hope it’ll be even better, or to allow for any glitches that are found. But basically, yeah, it’s a demo! :)

    • It’s more like so they can do a day one patch me think.

    • Very late betas are usually for the purpose of stress/load testing. Still falls under testing, just not for gameplay issues.

  7. No planes, cars, tanks etc.. no deal. I want to crash something into a TSAer! :(

  8. * does a little wee *

  9. YEEEEESSSSS great news!

  10. Cool been looking forward to this for an age.
