Yesterday Sony Network Entertainment VP, Eric Lempel, reported that system update v3.72 would be launching “soon.”
Having launched overnight, like the majority of 0.01 incremental updates, it’s nothing major, just a few system stability improvements for software and the PlayStation Network.
Early reports pointed at issues with Netflix, but these seem to have been resolved. The update is primarily meant to sort out automatic downloads, which have been broken for Plus subscribers since recent updates.

Yup, it’s as mandatory as Firmware updates having ‘added software stability’.
Anyway, hopefully Auto Update actually works now, seeing as they somehow screwed up the only major feature of the last FW.

It’s not ANOTHER 170mb, it now only downloads the portion of the NEW 170mb of data that your system does not have, sp unless you have a brand new console as of this morning you wont be downloading 170mb

It came in after 3.6 I believe. Only the changed files are downloaded. This is why later FW updates take a couple of minutes rather than nearly an hour.

I hope this sorts the auto-download problem – nothing has downloaded for me in ages! Seeing as I pay for PS+ it is very annoying. However, no doubt Sony have covered their arses within the T&Cs!

I agree. I keep having to wait for updates on the games I am playing currently. Last night I wanted a 30 minute bash at Resistance 3 before bed but by the time the update was done, it was too late.

Yeah, I know what you mean – I only have PS+ for the auto-downloads and save cloud, not the games or content. With my son I don’t get long to play, and what with all the incomplete games being released (*cough* Dead Island *cough*) with multiple patches, this is a good time saver.
Come to think of it, I don’t think anything has downloaded for weeks!! I do hope this sorts the problem!

Yeah have been working fine for me also since launch. I guess the problem is maybe related to hardware revisions and/or regions.

All this time, I’ve only had 1 automatic download as ps+ member . Was quite surprised to be honest…but I agree with that the t&cs will and have protected sony.
