Angry Birds creator Rovio are working on an ‘alliance’ with purveyors of overpriced coffee and skinny muffins that have more calories in them than a Krispy Kreme doughnut, Starbucks.
Rovio may offer virtual goods and in-house leaderboards at the coffee chain outlets. Wibe Wagemans, a senior vice president at Rovio said
It’s tying in the real world with the virtual world, retailers get new customers who’ve not been to their stores yet, and repeat customers.
It was recently announced that Rovio sell over a million Angry Birds plush toys every month.
If you were wondering, a Starbucks Skinny Lemon & Poppyseed Muffin has 390 calories and the most calorific Krispy Kreme doughnut weighs in at just 350.

Interesting, if a somewhat odd move. I suppose it makes sense but I don’t see it really taking off. I could be proven wrong though.
On another note, Krispy Kreme doughnuts are THE best doughnuts I’ve ever tried :)

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are so good.

Havnt had one ever. One doughnut for like £2 or 5 custard doughnuts from tesco for 99p, easy choice!

You should – they’ll change your life!

No offence but is this the place to vent your feelings about Starbucks’ misleading branding or inflated pricing?
Surely everyone is over Angry Birds now. I don’t play it all that often and I have still 3 starred every level in the original, had my fill of Seasons and completed most of Rio. It’s still fun every now and then but location specific leader boards don’t interest me and what on earth kind of virtual goods would you need in Angry Birds?!

Also, the muffin may have more calories but it’s only 4g of fat compared to the 18g in the doughnut. I’m not saying that justifies their ‘Skinny’ branding but it’s important to note that not all calories are equal.

I’m not venting, I’m padding. But thanks for making me point that out.
Git.

I did think that might be the case but decided to try and further the pretence for you. You’ve blown it now.

Starbucks?… eh look no.

How about a partnership between mcdonalds & PSN? Bronze trophy for a big mac?

Surely then the entire menu at once would be a platinum? Obesity rates would soar..

My girlfriend has gotten me on Mocha coffees so I may check this out. Well, not playing angry birds but the muffins sound delicious.

Over a million plush toys a month? Wow, that is serious sales.
I’ve seen some of the Angry Birds merchandise but they are so expensive for what they are. They must be making a fortune.
