Capcom has announced the release date for Street Fighter X Tekken. The game is set to hit store shelves on March 6th in North America and on March 9th in Europe. Capcom also revealed that a PC version is now in development.
At New York Comic-Con, the Gem mechanic was officially explained. Basically, you can customize your fighter with up to five gems based on your gameplay style. For example, you can equip gems that increase your strength during a combo. It seems like a gimmick but the results are pretty substantial.
Check out the new trailer below to see the Gem system in action. The video also details all the other gameplay mechanics introduced so far. It’s definitely worth watching.
Capcom also revealed the Street Fighter X Tekken Special Edition for the hardcore fighting game fan. Unfortunately, it’s only going to be available in North America. The Special Edition includes:
- Street Fighter X Tekken game
- Build-It-Yourself Arcade Cabinet Bank (approximately 5”H)
- Exclusive Prequel Comic Book by UDON
- 36 Gems: Includes All Pre-Order Packs Plus An Exclusive Pack
- Pre-Order Bonus: Nine Exclusive Gems Only Available For Pre-Ordering Special Edition
The idea of having exclusive gems is not something I’m a fan of. The mechanic is something that directly influences gameplay and giving people an “advantage” like that is absolutely ridiculous. It really makes no sense, especially from a competitive standpoint.
The last bit of information comes in the form of those annoying teaser trailers. The focus this time is on the Tekken roster. It should be noted that not every character shown in these teasers are actually in the game. Some are just there to throw you off. If you pay attention to the stage backgrounds you should be able to figure out which one is real.
