MW3 User Reviews “Generally Unfavourable”

Whilst the early press reviews of Activision’s Modern Warfare 3 were, well, fantastic, user opinion doesn’t yet seem to match the glowing comments from the industry critique.

[drop2]Of course, the first round of reviews from the big sites tend to be higher than the overall average, for whatever reason, but rarely is there such polarity between them and the buying public.

“This is the BEST map pack for MW2 so far. It’s a little over priced though, they’re usually like $15,” says one user on Metacritic.  “If you played one, you’ve played them all. Same thing. Get in line, everyone is buying this game,” says another.

“Played this sorry excuse of a game for a while yesterday after we picked it up on the midnight launch.”

“The funny thing is I had yet to realize this was the exact same game I’ve been playing for two years,” says another Metacritic user.

The common complaint appears to be that this is more of the same, although that shouldn’t come as a massive shock to most – it does have a ‘3’ at the end, and anything off the beaten path would have been judged equally as viciously.

With the user review average currently sitting at around 3.2/10, there’s certainly some unhappy people out there that have splashed cash on the much hyped Infinity Ward first person shooter.

We’ll have our review done as soon as humanly possible.  We weren’t selected in the first round of review code, so bought the game at midnight last night with you guys.

  1. Im sure the people who are happy with the purchase are playing it instead of voicing their opinions, hence the low scores. I know thats what I did with a certain PAIN level pack…

  2. The user reviews are unfavourable because its popular to hate on call of duty for some reason. While I myself am not a fan the games are given very harsh criticism. Also the reason they haven’t changed the gameplay is because if it isn’t broke why fix it it’s done well up to now so why would they change it

  3. Ugh. Hipsters.

  4. Couldn’t give a shite about hating anything related to videogames, their much like sex in the fact that even when their bad they don’t do any harm outside of your wallet.
This is the only triple A Fps to not have any tech to offer, lost it’s core Devs and has a vested interest in being as copy/paste as possible for it’s millions of day one buyers.Did people really expect anything to have changed, seriously? if so then maybe it’s them that should be reviewed.

  5. Will be giving this a miss anyway for now. It’s going to be exactly the same as MW2. UC3 is the same as UC2 apart from a few tweaks. Same as every sequel.

  6. MW3 is an average game, it doesn’t deserve a 3.2 nor a 9.0. The Metacriters seem to right reviews on games that dislike.
Even though I don’t own MW3, I think it deserves a 7.5 or 8.0, however, my opinions might change negativaly or positivaly when I play it.

    • Worst comment of all time? I’ve never played it but it deserves a 7! Shouldn’t really say what I want to say in response to that.

      • Tony,

I’m hoping that InternationalGamer posted with his tongue very firmly in his cheek as a response to similar ‘serious’ posts from people who appear to have either not played the game or only played it for about 5 mins and for some reason think that doing so puts them in a position to assess it.

If not, he truly is a world class f*****g idiot…

    • Having re-read his post, and noticed the sheer number of spelling mistakes etc. I have now changed my opinion.

He is a world class f*****g idiot .

  7. I personally think that COD is an average game but i’m not into modern day FPSes. I haven’t heard anything bad about CODMW3 yet so it seems that everyone who has brought it are enjoying it. =)

I have just 1 question about MW3, and it’s about the child killing, is that actaully relevant to the plot? I’m just curious. :)

  8. I’ll just be pleased in a few weeks when people shut the hell up about cod.

    • You will be reminded of it every week for the next few month when the weekly game sales charts get posted. :P

  9. The game may look the same as MW2, the feel of it however is VERY different imo. Then again I am a CoD fanboy with my own youtube CoD channel >.<

  10. No surprises here then. I couldn’t give a toss about any game in the CoD series (or Battlefield or whatever else) but one thing I do know is that people love saying how much they hate it. This sort of thing might affect smaller games but the CoD brand almost transcends video-games and a vast percentage of the purchasers won’t even look at scores given by users, critics or otherwise because they already know what they’re going to get. The series gets criticised for being samey but that’s also the beauty of it too, if it was drastically altered, there’d be a much bigger fuss kicked up.
