UK PSN Store Now Offers TV Episodes

The UK PlayStation Network Video Store has had a minor upgrade. You can now buy individual TV episodes – plenty in HD – to download and keep on your console.

There is certainly plenty of choice with US TV shows making up the bulk of the content. It seems like this is the fruition of a deal between Sony and Sky TV. Shows like Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, South Park and Two and a Half Men will attract PlayStation fans who don’t keep a Sky subscription and are reluctant to use grey-area download sites or other means, like iTunes, to get the best of US television.

Unfortunately, the selection of episodes on offer does seem a little bizarre. For example, there are seasons one and six of 24 available but nothing in between or after. Dollhouse season two is available but there’s no first season.

Episodes seem to be priced between £1.49 and £2.49 each, in SD or HD but there’s no option to buy full seasons of shows.

Is this something you’ll use?

Thanks, poultee

  1. That will explain why I was unable to access the ps store yesterday – service is under maintenance was what I was greeted with. I don’t get where Sony get their prices from, first £50 for back ops, now this? I will not download a single episode of anything at these prices.

    • to be fair, they probably get their prices from Sky in this instance…

    • Yeah i dont understand Sony’s pricing structure either. I dont agree with illegal downloads, but when companies enforce such high prices, it serves nothing other than advertising what is available else where. I really wish digital downloads would be cheaper, but i cant see that happening anytime soon… shame, although im happy to be proved wrong…..

  2. At those prices they’ll have a hard time competing with the torrent sites. :/

  3. No, I hate the video store. The films are the same as the TV shows, they have some crap sequels but not the better originals, and you can’t rent Thor either which is a massive FAIL!

  4. another waste of time. Why pay that when you can get it cheaper elsewhere, or even free in most cases.

  5. If it has more classic british tv shows I may be intrested, but prices do seem abit high.

  6. Sorry Sony still too high a price for me. Get SD shows for under a quid and I may be more interested.

  7. Work out a competitive Season price then divide by the number of shows and bump the price up a smidge. Offer both options and job done. Until then, no deal.

  8. another example of Sonys ridiculous pricing madness, idiots

  9. Over priced but was never goin to use it anyway. Nice to have the option tho

  10. Isnt this something like £50 to own a digital season? A bit pricey but then Playstations store usually is compared to the UKs pricing.
