Official Xbox 360 Magazine have been speaking to the producer of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Yoshinori Kitase, who has said that they are aware ‘that hundreds of fans would like to see a hi-def version of Final Fantasy VII.’
However, he has also said the remake would ‘take ten times longer’ than the time taken to produce Final Fantasy XIII. One of the problems seems to be the static backdrops of Final Fantasy VII which would have to be completely remade in HD.
“If we were to pursue the same graphical quality, somehow we would have to make adjustments about game volume in the world, we’d have to cut down certain areas,” said Kitase.
“But if we did that our fans would probably be not very happy, so we have to achieve both goals so that if we ever decide to either remake VII or make a sequel for hi-def consoles, we’re going to have to be very, very careful.”
Kitase also said he would be ‘really tempted to delete things and add new elements’ so perhaps we should stop clamouring for a remake a leave Final Fantasy VII as it is, a classic on PlayStation One.

Why does it take so long for some Japanese developers to make a game?

i think this is a way to keep people thinking it`ll never happen when it actually will.
consider: its taken 18 days for a handful of people to create full HD versions of windhelm and winterhold in skyrim.
a tiny mount of people helped give Stalker Complete a different way of rendering shadows, dynamic lighting and a whole host of graphical updates over a few years.
its actually inconceivable to me that a company worth millions, with a staff of hundreds has no ability to do this (incidentally, deleted it? luckily for them there are rather alot of copies out there to decompile).
so it comes down to a positive/negative split on this: Either he`s pouring water on it to surprise everybody one day OR they have no intention of doing one, EVER, and are sick of having to field questions on the subject but are too nice to tell people what they can do with themselves :D

Controversial opinion but firstly leave FFVII as it is, though if they did remake it I would be first in the queue, and also bring back turn based battles!!!

As much as I respect the purists who don’t want a remake, I don’t see a reason against it. Just don’t buy the game and play the original over and over, the remake won’t stop you from doing that.

Bah. If they had no interest in VII they would just stop commenting on the amount of work it would be.
They are denying it, while at the same time introducing an idea (delete things, add new things) to gauge the reaction among the fans.

I bet if they do a remake they will ruin it by changing it so Aerith lives.
