OnLive Gaming Hits iOS/Android Devices

It has been announced that cloud gaming service, OnLive, is now available on iOS and Android (Requires Gingerbread or higher) devices.

I couldn’t find the iOS app this morning, but I’ve downloaded the Android one onto my Samsung Galaxy S2 (pictures below) and it works!

The service is limited to 25 games so far, such as Bastion, Darksiders and L.A Noire. The games can either be played using the new touchscreen controls (which seem responsive), or by syncing your device with the OnLive controller, although not every tablet or smartphone will be compatible.

From what I can gather you need WiFi to run the OnLive games in the UK.

Oh, and you’ll also get a free copy of LEGO Batman.

  1. Typical, this is released on the day I cancel my playpack subscription. Im a believer in OnLive but the lack of AAA titles is killing especially right now. MW3/BF3/FIFA/B:AC/AC:R/UC3/Skyrim for example all released in last 8 weeks or so and they are surely the games that will garner my attention over most OnLive games.
That said I own Deus Ex:HR on the Onlive system so I will definitely give that a good go “if” (from what YMAM has said) is released on iOS

  2. Amazing! Any word on whether this works on iPad over Apple TV?

  3. Im trying to get clarification on the iOS situation. However the video on their site shows an iPad, and they are actually giving away an iPad 2 and wireless controller!

  4. I’d love to give it a try on my Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Wasn’t able to get my hands on the app as of this morning but will try and sideload it if I have to. I’d also like to know if my paired PS3 controller works with this app so I don’t have to use on screen controls. I don’t feel like buying an OnLive controller for 40 Pounds either.

    • I optimistically plugged a dualshock into my Asus Transformer, but that didn’t work, if you’ve got the official onlive controller then that’ll definitely work though

      • Just install Motionjoy, probably wont work for the galaxy tab (sorry KeRaSh) but I’m sure it will for the Transformer. :)

      • Motioninjoy?? that was a pain to use, I’d rather have the file that was on Windows XP

  5. I sure the email I got on this only mentioned Android devices not IOS ?

  6. Why? Surely, you won’t have enough time to play them as mobile games usually are used to pass the time on a bus/train/plane. I can imagine a lot of users getting angry letters from their providers. I am hoping that both forms of Onlive as i don’t want to see the future of gaming be download only/streaming only. I like to look at my collection of games.

    • Ugh ffs, not everyone plays games on the plane or train… or the rain, but is it not a pain to just play it anywhere in the home??… or is there a killer Gnome? eh even the bus wouldn’t make sense, like a pussy cat clawing one fool to death… Yet no depth in the claws…

(Random..)Well surely most of these users are smart enough to get a proper unlimited package if they’re using data a lot? wouldn’t dare with a bad company that can’t provide one or have a 100gb limit or something.

  7. Apple haven’t approved it yet, although it’s expected that they will.
After all, they approved the viewer already.

  8. That’s pretty cool. What does the graphics look like? Also, touch controls… *shivers*.

  9. This looks like something I’ll get into, especially when I can start using it on my iPad2.

  10. Wouldn’t fancy it on a mobile size screen, but it’s a convincing arguement for a teblet device – when the Transformer 2 arrives that is.
