Dead Island Ships 3 Million Copies

Dead Island developer Techland has announced that their co-op zombie slaying sim has managed to ship 3 million copies globally since its release back in September.

Techland PR Tomasz Gawlikowski also reckons that Dead Island is the best selling new IP to be released in 2011:

“I don’t have accurate data but I think that we probably made the best-selling new IP in year 2011. Also Dead Island is the best-selling game in history of Polish game development.”

I might not have accurate data, but it certainly seems to suggest that zombie games haven’t become spent force just yet.

  1. it was the only new ip wasn’t it? ^_^

    seriously though, good on them.

i’ve not played it yet, hopefully we might see it on the platinum budget label sooner or later and i’ll probably buy it then.
but i enjoyed the book for now.

  2. I enjoyed the game right up to the point i had to level up to 50 to get the plat, my god it was such a grind! worse than crysis 2 mp level 50!

  3. It seems that new IPs struggled to sell loads this year.(i know they sometimes struggle but not always). I wonder if it is down to poor timing?

Haven’t they yet to release the BloodBath DLC that was promised to those who preorded the game? I am very disappointed that it didn’t become the emotional game about a family trying to surive a zombie outbreak. I love those types of games. I think the devs of Dead Island may have taken the Bethesda school of Coding judging from the amount of reported bugs that it seem to have.(i’m joking, i just poking fun at Beth’s rep in the industry).

If they ever do a Dead Island 2. I really hope they use the debut trailer’s storyline for it. I want an emotional zombie game.

It’s certainly been released on the store for sale, but whether those that pre-ordered have now got it for free or not, i don’t know.

      • Really? :O If those with preorder copies didn’t get it for free then that is well, crap.

      • I got it for free, amazon sent a code out for it to me. Still haven’t bothered to put the code in the store yet and redeem it. @the original comment, what really made the game rubbish for me was the lack of emotion, it was something that was really advertised as part of the game, but just didn’t deliver
