PS Vita Sales Suffer In Week Two

PlayStation Vita has only sold 72,479 units in its second week, a rather disappointing figure after the initial couple of days worth of 324,859.

To put that into context, the PSP sold more – 101,121 to be exact – in the same seven days; and the 3DS shifted a staggering 482,200 units.

The 3DS sold around 200,000 in its second week.

I’ve been playing with the Vita since Christmas Eve and am collecting my thoughts for a full write-up.  Regardless of the figures, it’s a lovely machine, but I expected much more saleswise.

  1. I can’t see Sony being too happy with these sales but they know things are going to go crazy as soon as Monster Hunter 4 is announced. I suspect Kaz is on the phone to Kenzo around about now demanding they announce a release date.

  2. Blame the software, what they released over there is not popular at all over there its more popular here in EU & NA thats Sonys own fault.

  3. The vita is failing to make a decent impact. It’s got a decent launch line up. I think. I wonder if it is due to the situation in Japan that has affected both handheld consoles from selling lots on release. I wonder if the Vita will fair better when it releases in America and Europe?

  4. This is probably due to Monster Hunter, the 3DS sold 480,000 units in the same week :3

  5. Hopefully sales will pick up … although a price drop would go some way to make up for the memory cards.. :)
I’m looking forward to your Vita review Alex, should be an interesting read!

    • They’ve already dropped the price of the memory cards. They’ll probably plummet in 2012 as production ramps up. Everything is expensive in the beginning.

  6. Bear in mind that although to us Uncharted is a major deal in the same way Monster Hunter might be in japan. Uncharted however isn’t a big deal in japan at all. So to japanese eyes the launch titles is more akin to what we saw with the western 3DS release.

However when Vita launches in the US/Europe not only will it be the Western friendly IP’s but more of them.

I hope anyway. Although I really wish they add a 4gb memeory card on the US/Euro launch.

  7. it sold over 2 times more than the PSP in its first week so this makes no difference really give it a chance it has been out 5 mins in 1 country.

  8. Sad, but as I’m not planning on getting one I guess being sorry more aren’t selling makes it a bit hypocritical of me.

  9. A sign of the global economy. Cant really see Sony being worried about these figures. Its Feb when sales will count. Sales in America and the EU accounts for 65% of PS3’s sold so this is where Sony will be looking for the slack to be picked up. Nice big ad campaign and they are away.

  10. TSA was started as an anti-Sony site back in the day wasn’t it?

    • Not sure, I’m new here.

      • New you say, have you met Steven yet? He likes to welcome noobs on our behalf and put them on the straight and narrow :P
