PlayStation Vita has only sold 72,479 units in its second week, a rather disappointing figure after the initial couple of days worth of 324,859.
To put that into context, the PSP sold more – 101,121 to be exact – in the same seven days; and the 3DS shifted a staggering 482,200 units.
The 3DS sold around 200,000 in its second week.
I’ve been playing with the Vita since Christmas Eve and am collecting my thoughts for a full write-up. Regardless of the figures, it’s a lovely machine, but I expected much more saleswise.

The internet said(mainly US & UK gaming sites) the ‘PS3′ would fail after the second week it came out LoL & now its nearly dumped the ‘Xbox 360′ in to 3rd place in Worldwide sales:P
+ SONY should of tried harder to at least get something ‘Monster Hunter’ on the PSVita on day 1 in Japan.
+ the PS3 did 75,943 COOL:P (that is all i care about really)

I just love your unnecessary quotation marks.
‘Xbox 360’ suggestions it’s not actually an Xbox 360. Maybe it’s a Dreamcast in disguise?

Cant be, i played one of these ‘Xbox 360’ and the Dreamcast was much more fun…. Now, back to ChuChu Rocket!

One thing does seem clear. The handheld isn’t dead in Japan, but they valve games and/or price over the latest tech.
As a big supporter of Vita I have to say I’m disappointed but this is like around Christmas isn’t it? Maybe that’s an affect as people don’t have the money for a Vita as well as buying presents for everyone else outside the hardcore? Let’s wait and see what happens before we right it off.
The US/Euro launch should be interesting as its in an werid month and a good selection of games that should appeal. The 3DS had a bad first year but isn’t that improving now? (haven’t actually kept up on that handheld, been watching the Vita instead).

they could slap a 400 quid price tag on this and I’d still happily buy one

As it’s almost half that you can buy two & give me one… everyone wins
Smallville2106
That’s the most ridiculous comment I have read/heard today.

Sony aren’t pinpointing their customers and advertising the product to them. I’ve not seen hardly anything on it other than TSA. That says it all. Advertisment sells products, learn from Microsoft.
sparkyscrum
I have to admit the adverts for pre-ordering a Vita have been following me around. A lot of the non gaming forums seem to have the ad in that rather nice new Playstation blue.

We’re going to see the same exact trend for the EU and US launch, because they majority of the people that want a vita are going to by it day 1.
Personally I’m not getting a vita until I can run some homebrew, as theres no way to justify the price just to play a few games that make me wish I was at home playing them on a big screen instead. And why anybody would spend $10 instead of $1 to play an ios game is puzzling. Plus since you also have to either already be an AT&T wireless customer or become one for 3g service (that should be 4g) the price just can’t compete with an iphone, and judging by these sales numbers others agree. I wonder how many ios devices were sold in japan over christmas? If I was Sony I’d be getting nervous right now because the vita isn’t going to sell out anywhere… unless they only ship a few hundred thousand to each region.

It’s not the drop-off
The drop-off is 100% understandable
What some people may be disappointed by is that the 3DS (when it was full price with next to no games) sold ~3 times that amount in its first full week, once the initial launch day & pre-orders had sold through.
Kind of smacks of PSP Vs DS already with the more expensive & capable hardware not only falling short, but being outside every single week throughout the year too (the 3DS did 800,000 in the same time the PSV with all its pre-orders did 400k)
Personally I think this is only a snapshot & its not until you add up the 1st year’s sales it counts

Still waiting for a decent bundle to appear! Really don’t want to have to get everything separately, as it’ll run to about £300.

i think when it comes to Sony there isnt a great deal to worry about as you just know the figures in 5 years time will be through the roof
