Simpsons Arcade Delayed A Week For Plussers

Just a quick heads up for anyone looking forward to The Simpsons Arcade today as part of the PlayStation Plus update: it’s not coming until next week.

According to the PlayStation EU Twitter, the game has been delayed.

“Sadly, we are now unable to publish The Simpsons Arcade in PS Plus until Wednesday 8 February, and not today as listed,” says the bulletin, pointing people back to the original Plus update post.

Ross McGrath explains further.

“Konami have contacted us this morning and informed us that The Simpsons Arcade will need to publish on February 8th to be in line with the game’s release on Xbox Live Arcade and in SCEA.”

“Unfortunately, this is not something I have the power to change,” he said, “and it means you won’t be able to get your hands on The Simpsons until next week – February 8th. Believe me, I’m as disappointed as you are.”

The game will still be available for four weeks, we’re told.

  1. I kept pausing Conan to check whether this was up yet! Damn it. “Hear the lamentation of the women”.

  2. In other words, Europe isn’t important enough to get anything first.

  3. That’s great news for me, i wasn’t looking forward to downloading it/installing it/playing for 10 mins/deleting it.. i’m not a fan as you can guess :D

    • How can you hate Simpsons Arcade??? It’s a classic!!

I must have lost hundreds of pounds (in 10ps) to that machine!

      • Yeah it’s impossible to hate on :)

      • I don’t hate it exactly but that’s basicly what i’ve done with comix zone, shadow of the beast, etc. Played them all back in the day but just can’t get into them anymore.

      • Ah, i see – More of not spoiling the nostalgia rather than not interested then i guess?

        That i can relate to.

      • Oh don’t worry, i’ll still go ahead and spoil the nostalgia as soon as it’s available ;)

  4. How silly….for once hope and now suddenly gone.

  5. Lame

  6. I blame the Origami Killer. :p

I really hope it’s a legal issue and not SCEE being SCEE as usual. I mean, you don’t promise something then pull it at the very last moment and not give an explantion. I hope SCEE won’t be ducks and only have it up for 3 weeks. :S

    • Not my fault. It’s only a week delay no big deal. But if it’s a Trine 2 then we have a problem.

      • That’s a bleedin’ good point… Where the hell is Trine 2 again today???

        *seethes*

      • I had forgotten about that untill you brought it up. What on earth is taking SCEE so long to “test” it? It can’t be legal issues as the developer and publisher have given them the right to sell it. Also, it’s is 100% identical to the US version so what are they playing at? I would understand if it was a PS1 classic but it’s a new game that was supposed to be out weeks ago. O-o

      • Joel from Frozenbyte posted on the store blog post … apparently they’ve found a minor bug and are fixing it, it won’t be out until at least late February or early March.

      • Would that mean the US version has a minor bug too then?

      • But that hasn’t stop SCEE allowing some very buggy stuff from being released onto the store. ;)

      • @ OK – Possibly, but there was no mention of it.
@ Lone Steven – You’re spot on. SCEE are a disorganised mess. It’s either delayed releases, last minute problems, incorrect pricing of content, or just plain content never seeming to see the light of day (Auditorium HD anyone).

      • Its just shocking.

  7. maybe it wasn’t scee’s fault, but for some reason i can’t stop thinking it is.
must be some kind of Pavlovian response.

but anyway, they didn’t find out till five minutes or so before the store updated?

not that this is the worst example from scee, they didn’t find out they couldn’t sell silent hill until a couple of weeks after the store update.

still, that always made me wonder, if as they always bleat on that they “have to wait for the publisher to submit it”
how the hell did they put out silent hill if the publisher didn’t submit it?

of course that assumes scee are truthful.
and it’s recently been proven that that they aren’t.

  8. Typical. If a game’s not ready yet for PAL regions they are just like ‘meh… who cares about them’ but god forbid, their precious Americans and Xbox players mignt get it 5 minutes after us and the whole world has to come to a standstill. *sigh*

  9. This mix-up is because the PS+ update was originally set for Feb 8th, but after complaints it was moved to the 1st.
Bit farcical they never checked this before moving it though.

    • Yep, this is exactly why.

      • AS mentioned below this shouldn’t be an excuse IMO. Whole idea is for Plus to update on the first Wednesday on every month which is of course today.

    • That’s no excuse. The update has to happen on the first wednesday of the month. Imagine lating for three months and Receiving only two months of content.

It’s just once again à SCEE screwup.

  10. They need a new director to come in and shake things up. It has so much financial potential, but desperately needs an overhaul.
