Right, games industry! Let’s just stop this now, shall we? Cameos in video games always used to be occasional quirks which we found amusing. These days, it seems like we’re expected to believe that every video game takes place in the same universe.
Fighting games are the worst for it, of course. It seems like you’re not allowed to just tornado punch someone in the ear anymore without it being someone you’ve previously flown an X-Wing against, stabbed a merchant with or ruthlessly murdered family members as. Fighting games can’t even keep comic book characters out!
Well, here’s the latest little bit of crossover news. Ryu, the guy in the white pyjamas from Street Fighter, is going to drop in on everyone’s soon-to-be (second?) favourite god-murdering psychopath – Asura. The screenshot below is not Asura appearing in Street Fighter, although the screen furniture would lead to that conclusion. It’s Ryu dropping into Asura’s Wrath as future DLC.
No details are known yet but it looks like a very good fit, except for the fact that one of these characters fights interplanetary battles against gods and the other one regularly got me beaten up by a fat Japanese guy and a skinny Chinese girl with pigtails.
