Mass Effect 3 End-Bolstering Free DLC Coming

It’s not to change the ending, you understand, merely to add to it. That’s what BioWare and EA are implying with their freshly announced free-to-download addition to the Mass Effect 3 saga. The DLC will be available in the summer and will add extra cinematic sequences and epilogue gameplay to the game’s controversial ending.

The best bit? They’ve called it Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut. Like it was a special edition!

Ray Muzyka, one of the BioWare bosses, has said that this is a reaction to the feedback the developers received after the game shipped.

Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team’s artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.

So it sounds like the disgruntled fans have shouted loudly enough to be heard and the original creative vision for the game is now being developed further to accomodate them. Hopefully, this means that we can just perpetually moan and BioWare will create new epilogue content for us indefinitely. I like the idea of tricking them into continuously supporting my favourite series of this generation forever.

  1. Scary that “fans” can now bully developers into making changes to games if they don’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, ME3’s ending is crap and I never plan on playing the over-rated game again but this still doesn’t feel quite right to me :|

    • I dont know, bioware have always said theyve listened to fans, i believe they would have this regardless of the ‘aggressive opinions’ of the minority.

  2. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and thoroughly enjoyed the ending. I will now thoroughly enjoy this thoroughly free dlc. Thank you, thoroughly.

    • I also thoroughly enjoyed the ending. In fact I thought it was a really beautiful thing and really well thought out. I do feel slightly in the minority here though. But hey.

  3. I’m surprised people aren’t complaining about the whole game overall, not just the ending. It’s about half the game that ME2 was imo.

    • Despite my comment above, ME3 is still a good game it’s just that it made scant impression on me as an overall gaming experience compared to ME2 which is possibly my favourite game ever.

  4. I’ll gladly see what this DLC has in store, but I never hated the ending myself. The reasons behind this DLC don’t please me. I hope the “haters” are happy with it…but hey, if not they can always have another moan again can’t they! *grumbles*

  5. I just think the whole thing stinks – on both sides – to me.
Bioware – crappy endings, braking promises = stinky.
Loud voiced moaners, jumping on the bandwaggon = stinky.
People content with the ending = fragrant.
People uncontent, but enjoyed the game = fragrant, but slightly confused! :)

    • You missed a group. People who see the ending as what it could truely be = New Game Smell

    • I’m with the uncontent but enjoyed the game crowd. Mass Effect 3 is undeniably a great game, it just the final five minutes that felt like a let down.

  6. I am pleased they are doing this. I did like the ending, but I hope they expand upon it. EA may not be too bad after all…

  7. The “controversial” ending — you mean, the one that *every* game journo suspiciously failed to mention in their 10/10 reviews?

Either they’re hypocrites… or the controversial ending simply doesn’t exist.

  8. Well, I am thoroughly enjoying ME3.
It has picked up exactly where 2 left off (by standards/gameplay) and I am chuffed to bits with it :)

Trying my best to not read the comments etc as I really don’t want to spoil the ending for myself. It will be interesting looking back at these articles when I have finally finished it though!

  9. If this is what I think it is, it won’t be any end-changing, and it’ll drop a lot of jaws. Also, I don’t buy into the fact, that it’s a reaction to the fan base. This is EA, why would it then be free?

  10. Buckling under pressure?
