Lost Planet 3 Confirmed With New Developer

I’ll be honest, I thought Lost Planet 2 was a little bit rubbish. It focussed on looking and playing like a multiplayer shooter, even in single player, and as a result the narrative kind of got away from them a little bit. That would probably have been eminently forgivable if the gameplay had been anything more than very unremarkably average. It was entertaining to play online though, especially with a few familiar PSN or XBLA names around you.

Capcom obviously weren’t exactly elated with the end result either, as they’ve just announced a third game in the series but they’ve switched developers to Spark Unlimited. Those are the guys who previously made the decidedly below average Legendary and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. They’re currently aiming to have the next Lost Planet game ready for a 2013 release date.

Edit: Capcom has asked us to remove the trailer until 16:00, when, hopefully we’ll be able to get a better quality look at the unveiling.

  1. I can just imagine hat project meeting now “so…Lost Planet 3? Anybody cheap we can put on it?”

  2. If a developer has a bad track record, you may not want to give them one of your successful franchises. Instead, get them to create a new IP to see if they are worth it.

What is it with Capcom and outsourcing certain franchises to other developers?
