Mystery Capcom, Namco, Sega Collaboration Revealed

I don’t think enough game titles have an “X” in them. That’s “X”, pronounced “Cross”, not your boring old 24th letter of the alphabet. Thank the maker then for Capcom, Namco Bandai and Sega for bringing us more “X”.

Their mystery collaboration, teased recently, has been revealed as Project X Zone for the Nintendo 3DS. Now, that’s a terrible title but don’t go away just yet, there’s some more interesting information, gleaned from the pages of advanced Famitsu copies.

The game is billed as a “strategic RPG” featuring characters from each of the three big publishers. The stars will pair up for the fighting sections of the game, apparently.

Capcom is donating Ryu & Ken from Street Fighter, X and Zero from Mega-Man, Demitri and Dante from Darkstalkers and Devil May Cry and Chris and Jill from Resident Evil. Sega are sending Shinguji Sakura and Ogami Ichiro from Sakura Wars, Pai and Akira from Virtua Fighter, Kurt and Riela from Valkyria Chronicles and Ulala and Touma from Space Channel 5 and Shining Force EXA.

Namco Bandai’s representatives will be Sanger Somvold from Super Robot Wars, Jin and Ling Xiaoyu from Tekken, Kos-Mos and T-elos from Xenosaga, Yurie and Estel from Tales of Vesperia and Kaito and Black Rose from .hack.

Each character has a massively simplified representation, similar to some fan art for Street Fighter from a few years ago. Several forums around the internet were abuzz with eager fans guessing who these could be when they were teased and it looks like many of them were correct.

  1. Jill? Dante? I’m in :)

  2. i recognise a few characters there.
the one’s you listed, although i don’t know all of those.
the girl with the yellow hat is from the Yumeria anime and game, but i can’t remember her name, just that she seems to like standing on telephone poles.
and the leftmost character on the bottom row is Leanne from Resonance of Fate.

a tactical rpg featuring these companies characters sounds great, but i don’t have high hope that it will ever see a release outside japan.

these kind of crossover games rarely do.

there’s a pretty promising looking one for the psp that features characters from a load of different anime series, that probably won’t get a western release.

  3. I only recognise a few of these, most come from series I haven’t played.

  4. Street fighter x tekken x virtua fighter? Powerstone styley???
