Podcast Episode 61: DiRT Showdown, Trials Evolution and Shank 2

It seems Peter’s gone off on holiday, leaving me to man the fort and write you this lovely podcast post. Sadly he’s much better at these than I am, so I’m hoping you’re not expecting too much.

Whilst there’s no real comic talk this week, you’ll be happy to know that we made up for it by having two quizzes. That’s right, a duo of quizzes. One comes early as Lewis tested our knowledge of God of War, whilst later on Peter tasks us with remembering obscure gaming facts.

[drop2]In between having our memories exercised we did manage to actually discuss a few topics of interest, although with no running order this week things got a bit chaotic at times. Peter talked us through his time smashing up cars in DiRT Showdown (a game I’ve enjoyed in the past as well), and then had a brief chat about how much he loves Trials Evolution.

Next up was Kev, chatting about Shank 2, before Lewis threw us into the magical world of cinema by talking about Super. As for myself, I hadn’t really done anything so didn’t have a topic to bring to the table. You’ll just have to listen to me ramble on about stuff at random, which is pretty much the same as every other episode.

Of course, at the end of the podcast we answer your questions to the best of our ability. I can’t remember exactly what we answered this week, but I’m sure they’re mostly bonkers. Oh and Peter learned that Java and JavaScript are not the same thing, a fact that seems to have blown his mind box.

  • You can send questions via email to podcasts[at]thesixthaxis.com.
  • You can also tag your questions on Twitter with #tsacast and, provided you’re not on a private account, we’ll see them in our search each week. Finally, as usual, we’ve set up a questions thread in the forum.

This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all.

  • As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download).
  • You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here.
  • Or we’re on iTunes, when iTunes feels like updating. You can also leave us a review and subscribe there, if you want to be particularly lovely.

  1. so, dishwashers with Java?
    could they run Minecraft? ^_^

V-Rally was Infogrammes, the first one was horrible, the handling was terrible, the cars seemed to steer from the rear wheels.

the GBA version was pretty good though, it was the first game i saw on the GBA that had polygon 3d rather than just sprite scaling.
i still play it from time to time even now.

i thought Captain America was a bloody good film.
Chris Evans is a pretty underrated actor.

you joke about the pizza stuffed with pizza.
but in iceland, they sell a pizza, with a pizza on top.

i saw super the other day, Tesco were selling it for 3 quid.
brilliant film, Rain Wilson is great, but Ellen Page was just crazy.

i just rediscovered i have the original Shank on Steam thanks to the indue bundle i bought a while back, the one that has Cave Story and Jamestown.
and i got Shank 2 on psn with my plus sub.
    both good games.

Floridians? the people that make the toothpaste? ^_^

    oh and Gratuitous Space Battles.
that’s a pretty cool game where you get a battlefield in space where you face off against an alien fleet and you get a pool of pilots and a set of funds to build your fleet.
once you’ve laid out your fleet you set the game going and your ships fight the enemy ships, i don’t think you have any control at this point, you just watch.
still, it’s fun watching the battle unfold.

i think it has a mutliplayer mode, but i’ve not tried that yet.

i should have remembered that dinosaur planet answer, i read about that years ago, and i’ve got the actual game, it’s pretty good actually, not much to do with the starfiox series other than the main character, but it’s a classic nintendo style game.

i didn’t like that quiz, i didn’t get a single bleedin’ answer, at least i can get some answers in Lewis’s quizzes.
i got 2 in the god of war quiz.
i should have got the Daedalus one, but i put Minotaur.

a Green Arrow game made by Rocksteady would be awesome.

i remember the Tick series, the live action one was pretty good, with Patrick Warburton as the tick, he was pretty much perfect as the tick.
sadly they only made like six episodes.

a tick game could have been cool, i think Telltale could have made a great Tick game.

there was apparently a Flash game getting made, but it got cancelled.
i found a video on on youtube.

for a zombie apocalypse, i think i’d take Supergirl, all the same powers as Superman, but much better looking.
if she and i were the last people alive, who knows what could happen. ^_~

i saw the trailer for Ted, it looked really funny.
speaking of cartoon creators making movies, check out the trailer for Idiocracy, by Mike judge, of Beavis and Butthead and King of The Hill.
Luke Wilson, i think, plays a guy who takes part in a cryogenics experiment but gets frozen too long, when he wakes up he’s the smartest person on the planet.

i haven’t seen it yet, but it looks hilarious.

aww crap, i’ve done it again.
    wall-o-text. ^_^

  2. The Tick is awesome. There already was a Tick game though on the SNES and Megadrive but it was only released in the US.
