Crytek ‘Not Intended To Be Taken Seriously’

It’s quite amazing what you can do with language, an apostrophe here, a misplaced word there and you can totally change the meaning of a sentence.

Take the headline for this news item, I have ‘jokingly’ forgotten to include that it was Rasmus Hojengaard’s comments on pre-owned games that were ‘not intended to be taken seriously’. You may recall Rasmus telling CVG that next gen consoles blocking pre-owned games would be ‘absolutely awesome.’

He has since issued a statement to CVG, ‘My comment made in the interview released on the 24th of April, touching upon ‘blocking sales of used games’, was not intended to be taken seriously nor representative of the opinion of Crytek.’

Rasmus was obviously joking, how foolish of us to read his comments about the second hand market needing to be ‘fixed’ in any other way.

I bet he was sat at his desk all week, doing a fantastic impression of an eel, waiting for everyone to laugh at his jape.

  2. The perfect picture!

  3. Some eel jokes are shocking.

    I’ll just leave now.

    • I see what you did there. Right up my alley. :D
      Eel meme ftw!

  4. Hahaha.

    • Admittedly, this comment did not add much to the discussion.

      • I’m KeRaSh and I approve of this message.
        I guess neither did mine…

  5. If they could block spineless PR intervention from the next generation of developer commentary that’d be AWESOME.

    • I heard a rumor that an online pass system would be implemented in PR statements too. Doesn’t make sense to me, but I’m sure they know what they’re doing…

  6. He doesn’t understand what a joke is.

    • Maybe he actually said:
“Blocking used games? Yeah, that would be awesome…”

And was just another victim of the printed words lack of a sarcasm font.

  7. Eel be happy hes set the record straight no doubt

  8. He needs to visit joke school.

  9. Is this a demo of Cryteks’s new backpeddaling engine?

  10. Even the tumbleweed has decided it’s not worth it. When the tumbleweed decide you are not worth it, that is one very unfunny joke. Hell, my jokes are probably funnier then his.

Or he has backtracked on his statement after the massive backlash he recieved from the gaming community. I doubt that CVG would cut out the sentence that told everyone it was a joke in the interview last week as they are not like the daily rags.
