Starhawk Scrapes Into UK Charts At Number 17

Sony’s Starhawk, the follow up to Warhawk, has charted this week but at a disappointing 17th place, with 505’s Sniper Elite V2 still at the top, even though sales for the title were down nearly 40%.

EA’s dominance of the rest of the charts, along with strong games from the likes of Ubisoft and Activision, complete the picture.

We’re not really sure what went wrong with Starhawk – the game’s great but perhaps the advertising wasn’t up to scratch and, maybe, people would have preferred it on PSN rather than disk.

  1. I really hope there will be new games appearing in stores and not the usual I avoid like EA and stuff hate the likes of Amazon for games but its been really difficult to buy games because of Gamestop closing, HMV not getting anything in and Game crumbling into oblivion. Ni sucks.

  2. 17 is good considering there has been zero advertising anywhere, so how would a costumer even know this game is out!
It’s funny how the games that sold most on PS3 has loads of advertising eg Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 3.

  3. Perhaps it might have fairly strong second weeks sales then if what everyone is saying happened nationwide regarding people being turned away due to zero stock. Still got to wait a couple of weeks till I can play it due to exams.

    • Will be tough with so little stock around, I know GAME stores received barely more than a few copies each (depending on store size obviously) Amazon themselves are out of stock and orders are only available through 3rd parties on their site, who thanks to shortages have bumped the price up over £40… compare that with EA buying chart positions flooding stores with stock & their titles all around £25, obviously their games are older… but they’re no schmucks at distribution

With the price going up online, rather than down I’d say week 2 sales will be lower and then it’s lost any chance of momentum it had until the 3-4 wk price drops, by then Max Payne 3, Diablo 3 & Dirt Showdown will be getting their week 1 tactics right and taking mind-share of customers & shelf space & advertising of retailers.

      SCEE = joke

      • This makes me sad as I’m really interested in the game but my huge backlog of games and a brand new and barely touched Vita prevented me from preordering it. I hope the price drops by the time June comes along so I can pick it up during my vacation. I don’t feel like paying 40 Pounds for the game.

  4. I only really knew that it was out due to the people on here. Not seen one ad for it at all. If i was a casual gamer i probably wouldn’t purchase it due to the fact i haven’t seen it advertised.

    • Good reason why casuals should steer away from gaming, they’ve killed it almost. Return to the old way of depending on Mags for the latest news or even in this age the internet for the latest word is what I hope for, much better back then since even then there was hardly any ads on the telly.

      • Yeah & gaming was seen as a geeky hobby that only existed in saddos bedrooms – I much prefer how mainstream & accepted it is today tbh.

Oh & if companies were relying on mags to get messages across these days, you can bet they’d barely sell a single copy.

  5. Hopefully they will do some big advertisment online about how they are doing free map packs ( which then doubles as acctually promoting the standard game ). They need to do something even the PS Blog has barly anything.

  6. If you don’t read any internet gaming sites then you wouldn’t even know it was out now :-/ Oh well. Hopefully it will slowly sell loads of copies because the beta was FUN:P

  7. Kaz bring in new advertising guys who no what there doing.

  8. I’m in the middle of exams, I was never going to be buying it Day 1.
Even when they’re up, there’s a bunch of Vita games I want, of which I can probably only afford to get one or two at most.

  9. Well, the gameplay in the beta was terrible, so unless it’s completely changed it’s no surprise people haven’t bought it. :P

  10. I never realised it was out Friday until the Wednesday before and had already spent my games ‘budget’ on Minecraft and Tropico 4. Maybe next week….oh wait Max Payne 3
