As much as we wanted to believe the hype -especially after the game’s touching cinematic debut- when Dead Island (our review) launched last September it was met with mixed opinion. Banoi proved to be the ideal stomping ground for a zombie hunting escapade, yet the overall experience was blighted by a wafer thin plot and tedious quest design, not to mention the myriad of glitches and performance issues the game launched with.
Bitter nagging aside, Dead Island was something out of the norm and definitely struck a chord with the gaming masses. In less than a year it’s already shifted over 3 million copies; not bad at all for a new IP from a fairly small-time Polish developer. You can’t really blame Deep Silver for wanting to monetize the game further with a “GOTY” re-release, especially if it is to become the publisher’s future flagship franchise.
Launching at a slightly-reduced price, zombie-slaying newcomers can expect a copy of the full game as well as two DLC packs and an additional “Ripper” weapon mod. The latter expansion, dubbed “Ryder White” is a separate campaign, re-telling the events of Dead Island from a different perspective. It cut away most of the intrusive free-roam elements of the game, yet suffered from the same fundamental gameplay issues. For our full review, hit this link.
Interested? Then be sure to mark your calendars for July 6th. The Game of the Year edition will be coming to Xbox 360, Windows, and the PlayStation 3.

So, did this actually win a GOTY award or is it just fine for anyone to do this now?

Apparently gamecritics.com

That’s what I was thinking as well.
Kivi95
Eh which site gave this a GOTY award :S ?
hazelam
if the price is right, i could see me buying this.
Joe Dart
They’ve managed to spectacularly undermine this announcement by putting the game on sale for £7.99 on Steam today.
Kreisash
But the question is… buy on Steam today, or wait and see if they offer the bundle on Steam later for a decent price?
ARGH!
MayContainEvil
The DLC is included in the sale, also at 60% off, if that helps.
KeRaSh
Sadly it’s not available in Germany and if it was it would be a boring cut edition…
SH Number 7/Mini-Lipscombe
If it’s a decent price then I might get it, as well as if they have fixed all the problems.
Kite
Please let the DLC be on the disk and not in some form of stupid redeem code!…
Peter Rushton
Might get this; never had got the original!
Foxhound_Solid
Can anyone release goty editions now?
OneShotWook
I actually have a Goty copy of Two worlds 2 from amazon so i assume yes.
hazelam
GOTY? Two Worlds?
that’s gotta be a violation of the trades descriptions act. o_O

Had a game with Element666 earlier, and its a great game when playing in co-op… but it does take about an hour to finally connect!

Dead Island wasn’t actually that bad I thought, it’s probably not GOTY material, but it was hilarious doing it co-op with a few mates! Deffo recommend that if you are going to pick this up, persuade some mates to get it too, it makes it an awesome amount of fun.

It was a nice diversion from the barrage of shooters and other linear action games at the time.
I found myself engrossed right up until the point that my game save was corrupted and I lost a good 12 hours of progress. Sadly, this put a huge dent in my overall experience. Luckily I’m not biased enough to miss what made this game a great platform for a new series.
