Sony Announce New – Wait For It – PSP

In a rather staggering display of – well, we’ve no idea what – SCEE have just announced a new PSP. A new PSP. PSP. In white. We pinched ourselves, and it’s still there. We even checked the date.

Look, the damned thing is real:

Whilst we assume that in doing all this not a single second of research and development has been diverted away from future consoles and – you know – the PS Vita, this isn’t what Sony should be doing. They, and their consumers, need to focus on Vita.

There’s a brand new handheld console out there that’s suffering sales-wise, and this won’t help, it just won’t. This isn’t even a proper PSP, it’s that daft restricted thing that nobody even noticed when it was released in black.

We’re confused. Frightened. Shocked.

  1. Well, I guess I best throw away this Vita I have just lying around, THIS is the future.

  2. April fools!!

    Oh wait…

  3. Just when you thought Sony couldnt confuse things even more…

    • The Japanese seem to have a knack of making confusing things more confusing.

      • I cant wait for the E3 announcment of an ultra slim PS1….

      • I would actually love to see Sony and Nintendo re-release their classic consoles. My PS1 and N64 are both on the fritz…

      • Its just SCEE though which is europe.

  4. That is quite shockingly ugly.

  5. *facepalm*

    • Why you sneaky!

    • You realize Sony cater for a global market, including emerging markets. Many of these markets don’t have PS3 yet, and still are on a PS2 generation.

All these comments (including those from TSA writers) just show how naive you lot are. Clearly this is not intended primirally for western markets, although it will be for sale there (and why not, there is a huge catalog of PSP games).

Do you REALLY believe the person that would buy this, would be taking a Vita sale away? Of course not.

This is why you lot are all burger flippers and bloggers, as you don’t get it, and can’t see the global picture.

      • This is SCEE we are talking about. So Europe. As far as I was aware, this doesnt cover any area that doesnt sell the Vita.

      • It’s an EU only release. I think the EU has the PS3 already and the Vita (and maybe even 4 models of PSP). Epic sarcasm :/

People aren’t really saying this will detract from the Vita’s sales. They are querying the fact that time has been spent on this on the first place rather than pushing the Vita which is struggling.

      • Oh crap, the fuzz is here!
I’ll have you know, I’ve been flippin’ off burgers for a long time and I can’t see how that relates to my capability to see a bigger picture and tell when Sony is pulling a fools move. We need the white VITA here in Europe, not a sixteenth PSP model.

      • “They are querying the fact that time has been spent on this on the first place rather than pushing the Vita which is struggling”

Time has been spent? All someone had to do was to say “make the PSP white” before you box it. I’m with thought police on this one he does have a fair point!

If there’s still a market for the PSP there’s still a market.. I know plenty of people with PSPs who quite frankly aren’t interested in the vita one little bit

  6. face, meet palm.

  7. *Le sigh* Sony really don’t have a clue do they

    • they’re aware of this thing called “a clue” but they “hold no truck with such witchcraft”

  8. I’ve just had a rant on their blog about it. Fools

    • And here’s the rant. Still awaiting moderation apparently

‘I am confused as to why Sony would crate another colour for the PSP and promote it instead of the Vita. The white Vita will release in Japan with no news of a western release and yet you guys decide to give us a white PSP? Really?

I’m amazed that you guys are still in business sometimes. Next week you’ll be creating old SD TVs in white and promoting those.

Stop doing dick moves and get back to promoting the Vita. I haven’t seen it advertised anywhere since launch day and most people (even gamers) don’t even know what it is.

I love my Vita but you guys are killing it.’

      • Yeah… That should show them!

      • wow what a hero you are.

Sony were selling LOTS of PS2’s Well into the PS3 generation. What’s so hard to understand about this?

      • Yeah but unlike the PS3, which recieved some advertising whilst the PS2 was still being sold, the Vita has received little to no advertising so pushing a new model for the PSP doesn’t fill people up with confidence as it seems that they would rather focus on the PSP instead of the Vita.

If the Vita was being supported, then they could get away with releasing the new PSP but tis not so.

      • Thanks Steven for getting my point. As for ThoughtPolice, your comments really make you sound like you haven’t thought any answer through. You assume that we are saying stop selling PSPs which isn’t the case. It still sells and even PS2s still sell but when they have a new product that is struggling they should be throwing their support behind it. Also, do you not think it was stupid of them to announce a white Vita in Japan and then give the EU a white PSP? It just doesn’t make any sense.

  9. What a daft idea.

  10. What are they doing?? They should be looking forward to new and future hardware.

    • It’s decisions like this that make Sony look like idiots.

The PSP is dead. Move on.

      • At this rate, so is the Vita.

      • Let’s not be too hasty about the Vita.

The PS3 took two years to get going, three tears for Japan and the US.

      • Three tears? One out of both eyes.. I don’t want to know where the third one’s coming from! ;-)

      • Oh FFS! I retypee that word about five times and still got it wrong!

Saying that, maybe a tear was shed for each region on PS3’s launch – The US were sobbing, Japan were silently weeping and the EU were inconsolable.

Then again, maybe i just meant to type ‘years’.
