Homebrewers Make PSP Online Network Gaming Better

Sony’s PSP promised a lot as the first handheld capable of online multiplayer gaming. Unfortunately, that network gaming dream never really realised its full potential.

Now, thanks to some homebrewers and a warranty-voiding workaround, there’s a network system that allows users to play any PSP game capable of the much wider implemented Ad-Hoc system to play online against others.

It’s called Prometheus and it works by wrapping the PSP’s Ad Hoc system inside an online shell thanks to some tweaks to your home network and you’ll need to be comfortable with homebrew on your handheld and the warranty implications that brings.

  1. What game is that? Looks good. Regret selling my psp now.

    • As each game starts its tells you the name of the game up on the top right of the video

  2. This is a great example of why homebrew isn’t just about piracy.
This is a very smart improvement to the system which would never have happened without homebrew development.

    Nice name too :)

  3. Just like adhoc Party for the PS3 but you need to mod your PSP?

    • and not own a PS3.

    • And I’d assume this works for most games, whereas a lot of games were unavailable on Adhoc party.

      • Ah, I thought you needed a PC as a bridge, this just runs on the PSP itself, nice! =)

  4. This will go nicely with that amazing new psp!

  5. Sounds like a built-in version of Xlink Kai http://www.teamxlink.co.uk, though Xlink doesn’t affect warranty.

Interesting but only going to be as good as support and number of users it attracts.
