EA has kicked off its big E3 showcase with a trailer for Dead Space. It looks a lot more action-oriented than previous outings and there’s a lot more talking and not so much creeping down a corridor with your heart in your mouth.
Anyway, Co-Op play has finally been confirmed, which is new, despite the fact that we kind of knew already. Perhaps a bigger surprise than the official announcement of Co-op play is the fact that the gameplay from it shows Dead Space in a very Gears of War light. There are waist high cover opportunities, large monsters with glowing yellow weak points and enemy soldiers. In a Dead Space game.
We’ll trust that Visceral will get it right, they’ve done well enough in the past to earn that trust. But we’ll await more gameplay footage before we’re completely comfortable with how it looks. Oh, and it was announced for February 2013, like most other games.

I haven’t seen the conference, so maybe they showed more of the game there, but just from this trailer alone you can’t say it will be more action oriented. You could easily make a pure action trailer for Dead Space & Dead Space 2 too. Oh, and larger enemies (e.g. the brutes) always had bright glowing weak spots in Dead Space games, so that’s also not new to the franchise.
About the co-op, if it’s done well, why not? Isaac had quite some company from NPCs in the first two games, but they constantly split up and met again at another point.
Of course it could turn out to be the biggest disappointment since Killzone 3, but I don’t think a 1 minute trailer is enough to judge the game. Let’s wait and see.

if they can combine Coop with survival-horror i will be impressed!!

Cannot wait…..I love Dead Space in all it’s forms. The story is unfolding more and more so we can’t expect the third game to match the first. You’ve only to watch the DVDs….I bet this game rocks. Reminded me of Aliens..
