As We All Thought: Co-Op In For Dead Space 3

EA has kicked off its big E3 showcase with a trailer for Dead Space. It looks a lot more action-oriented than previous outings and there’s a lot more talking and not so much creeping down a corridor with your heart in your mouth.

Anyway, Co-Op play has finally been confirmed, which is new, despite the fact that we kind of knew already. Perhaps a bigger surprise than the official announcement of Co-op play is the fact that the gameplay from it shows Dead Space in a very Gears of War light. There are waist high cover opportunities, large monsters with glowing yellow weak points and enemy soldiers. In a Dead Space game.

We’ll trust that Visceral will get it right, they’ve done well enough in the past to earn that trust. But we’ll await more gameplay footage before we’re completely comfortable with how it looks. Oh, and it was announced for February 2013, like most other games.

  1. From the footage shown, it looked absolutely terrible, well perhaps not terrible, but nothing to do with Dead Space

Dead Space was a really unique and excellent premise, now just another cover based 3rd person shooter.

    Damn :(

    • EA are bringing about their own destruction with their incessant pummeling of franchises into the same ill-fitting template. Good! I don’t like EA!

    • it looks like Gears of War on the Lost Planet planet.

    • Looks ok but is it still Dead Space? No.

    • you aren’t wrong it did look terrible, a bit like the South Park episode with Indiana Jones

its a shame survival horror games are sorely lacking this generation, don’t people like it when a game makes you scream (re: Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth)

  2. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen more gameplay.

  3. The bit they showed was vey ‘actiony’ but I think that to showcase the co-op more…

  4. Does anyone know if the footage shown at E3 was PS3 footage or Xbox 360?

    • I am sure the guys had xbox controllers…

      • Ah right my stream was so awful I couldn’t make it out. I hope it’s going to run smoothly on the PS3 and over the coming months they show plenty of gameplay footage. I really enjoyed the first two but really not sure about the co-op.

    • I’m sure it will run smooth on ps3 as the other 2 did well I only played one & that was smooth as a baby ass. Plus EA & Sony seem to be cool

      • Visceral Games have complete platform parity with Dead Space & Dante’s, the closest any game can possibly be, can’t imagine this would be any different.

  5. surely co-op will remove the feeling of solitude and desparation..that the sieres does so well?

    • It looks like that would’ve been gone even without the co-op. :(

  6. No local coop, no purchase. Got bored of D2 within the first two hours…

  7. Hopefully the footage shown was just to show off the co-op gameplay. But yea, it seemed more like an action shooter in the same universe..but it wasn’t dead space.

  8. Haha Gears of Space sums it up pretty well!

  9. The more games they make in the series the more its looking like alien. Starts with great tense full on horror and over time ended up making loud bangs that weren’t that fun
