Announcing The TSA DiRT Showdown Tournament

Another year, another DiRT and once again the DiRT Tournament will be open to all players willing to put their pedal to the metal. As this is Showdown however, the different skill set promises to mix things up a bit with no clear favourites.

This year the format will start out with two groups (maximum of 8 people per group) each running for two weeks. For these two weeks, there will be the following three legs within each group:

  • Leg One: Rampage
  • Leg Two: Domination
  • Leg Three: Race Off

Due to the nature of the game the above description of the game modes will be as detailed as it gets, given there is no option to choose specific tracks. Points will be awarded to all drivers using the DiRT points system (10 points for first down to 1 point for eighth) for each individual leg. This means that the most points someone can achieve in the two weeks is 60 points.

Following this the top four point scoring drivers from each group will go into a knockout tournament, much like last year’s tournament. In the interest of fairness, the match ups will be decided via random.org. In this knockout stage of the competition the race setup changes slightly:

  • Leg One: Knock Out
  • Leg Two: Head 2 Head
  • Leg Three: Race Off

The winner of each leg will move into the next round until we reach the final and crown a winner. The final week of the tournament will not just host the final, but a play-off to determine third place.

NB: If a player fails to attend a group leg, they will receive no points. If, in theory, you don’t attend the first leg but can attend the last two you can still score points. If a player fails to attend a knockout match, they forfeit the match and their opponent advances.

Number and Organisation of Entrants

The maximum number of entrants allowed is sixteen, with places given out on a first come first served basis. To enter, please fill in the form below with all of the dates and times that you are available to race in the tournament. This will enable me to create the group days and times based on when everyone is available to race.

Do not forget that we actually have meets on both Tuesday and Sunday at 7pm and 6pm respectively so these would be the ideal times. When we hit the knockout stages, match-ups can organise their own times and give us the results in the forum thread due to go up shortly. These matches must be completed before Sunday 10pm of the week they are set in.

The deadline for entry is Thursday 16th June.

TSAN Tournament Coverage

For the round ups each week, I am also leading a new project which aims to cover all TSA Tournaments. Although the main attraction, LIVE, doesn’t launch until September, DiRT Showdown will be the first officially covered event with commentary by myself and Origami Killer. To this effect I would like to ask all contenders to try their best to record their matches and upload them to Youtube as soon as possible (that day if possible). No editing is required. More information on this will come closer to the time.

Headsets are always welcome and chat lobbies will be set up for all participants.

All that’s left is to wish everyone who enters the best of luck in the coming weeks!

This is a community run tournament organised by TSA member DeathinFlamez.

  1. Signed up! May the best man/woman (read: hoonigan) win!

  2. Signed up … not sure how/if I can record my matches though.

    • If you have a decent camcorder of camera which can record, then that’s what I’ll be using :P has to be a certain quality though. If you can’t manage it there is no worries :)

      • Yeah, I’ve got a camera, that’s not the problem. The problem is I don’t really have anywhere to put it, I sit about 3 or so feet away from my tv (I have a very small room) so there’s not really anywhere for it to go other than on my lap … which isn’t the best plan as it’ll move about too much. I shall try it out, but I’m not sure if it’ll work particularly well.

      • May I suggest finding some stuff to create a makeshift platform? :)

      • Again, that’s not really the problem. In order to get the whole screen in view, the camera needs to sit pretty much where I sit. As I said in my previous post, I’ll try it, but I’m not guaranteeing anything.

      • That’s absolutely fine :) If you can do it then brill

      • Strap your camera to a hat and wear said hat!

    • Tripod?

  3. when will the tournament begin and finish?
having some problems as i finish school now and we have some evening activities next week…
and the week after that i begin to work like a real adult :P

    • Well it begins on the week of Monday 18th June and will run for 5 weeks :) It may be good just to enter and put your name in?

      • well if it starts then! that is the day i start working! =D

  4. Nice initiative, but I must say I’m not really enjoying Showdown enough to enter a competition like this – and that’s what it’s all about really. Sad, because it sounds like a decent setup, hopefully I’ll join in on the next DiRT tourney – because I enjoyed the previous one ;)

    • Now Manny, you are currently Number 1 in the rankings and in this game anything can change….why not take a chance? ;)

      • Haha! As you so nicely state, it takes a whole different set of skills to do well in this game :P – This shouldn’t actually be related to that leaderboard at all!

We’ll see when I’ve fully completed single player, but as of now, I doubt I’ll join. And by then, the spots will be filled anyway :P

      • I call them the “DiRT Standings” and this is a DiRT game….. :P and at the moment we have 6 entries (including myself)

      • Fair game, I’m really too bothered about the leaderboards since I’ve already topped them ;D

Fine, I’ll sign up if you absolutely demand it :P

      • Though I won’t be recording anything unfortunately, as I don’t really know how to.

  5. Awesome, signed up, very much looking forward to this. Some of the events have a slight randomness which means those of use with jobs who can’t practice 8 hours a day still have a chance!

  6. Good luck to all taking part.
This is the first Codies racing game I haven’t bought since the PS1 days so won’t be taking part.

    • Same, although I might pick it up when it hit’s bargain bucket prices. It’s just never particularly appealed to me!
Anyways, good luck to everyone that enters, and nice job with the organisation of the tournament guys ;)

  7. I’ve signed up! Last for meeeeeee. I don’t think I’ll be able to record it without using my dazzle and that means running in HD which as we’ve seen from when I record some of the Dirt 3 stuff, means I’m even MORE worse than usual – we’ll see!

  8. Sounds like a nice competition. Can’t enter as I don’t have the game – way too busy with GT5 right now (plus I have Sly Cooper 2 and 3 sitting on my digital shelf.) Shall look forward to reading/watching the coverage though.

  9. I have nothing to offer but blood, boil, tears and sweat.
