Yesterday’s sudden PSN maintenance brought down the Store for a good few hours without any warning, although the actual network (signing in to the PSN and playing online at least) seemed to continue just fine.
Sony have said that it’s now fully restored, though, so you should be able to jump back in and use the PSN as intended.
Oddly though, PlayStation say that if anyone is “still experiencing issues” that they should “reset their password”. No further explanation is given on this, so we’ve no idea why they’re suggesting a password change.
We’ll update if more information is given.

Very odd.

maybe its related to some kind of data corruption and if people have problems it is easier to get them to reset their password/authentication details.
I’m pretty certain if they had any security concerns like last year they will be very up front about it.

I tried logging into the playstation site to update my trophy card and 4 times the site said “Invalid user name or password”. This wasnt the case, I was copying and pasting from the same file I keep all my passwords on which works every time. Eventually it let me in.
Doubt it was any kind of hack, more like a data corruption like therock21 mentioned.

well, that’s reassuring. o_O

Which is bloody annoying for me as i have to boot up IE, find out what the email address i used for my main PSN account, reset the password to that, reset the Password to the PSN account, type it in on the PS3 when i sign in next. Really wish we could change the email address if a previous account has not been used for 2 years+.
But if the issues don’t continue for me, then i won’t reset it as i only use that email address for PSN. :)
The Lone Steven
Actually, i’m going to reset it just in case there has been a breach and Sony are trying to hide it again.
Mick939
I would be annoyed using IE too :-P
The Lone Steven
I would rather use the PS3.. actually, no i wouldn’t. Instead i would rather use a browser that is powered by a hamster in a wheel. It’s bound to be better then IE and the PS3 browser.
Amphlett
My Mom uses IE, though I don’t she’s aware of it.

The first thing that ran through my mind, the rest of his comment be damned!
Bilbo_bobbins
very worrying indeed. Another reason not to play games “Online” IMO.
stueeeee
So basically that means ‘we don’t know why it’s cocking up, could be hackers again so we dont want to end up in the same bowing stance as last time so if we tell u now we’ve covered ourselves, thanks’.

Not again, Sony?

I was prompted to change my password last week. I put this down to game sharing but now this has me a little worried.
Soild_Nat
Its back up because I finally finished downloading Motorstorm Apocalypse yesterday afternoon after 3 days solid downloading (24/7). Waiting a few days before I try and grab anything else. Hopefully the whole PSN is quicker now!

Oh noes the world is ending… stop trying to make this story bigger than it is.
Everyone is so cynical these days.
Forrest_01
Nothing wrong with being cautious – Especially since the message from Sony is so bizarre.
Bilbo_bobbins
to be fair, my bank account had £6k stolen when PSN was last hacked. Now I’ve never had that happen to me before and its too much of a coincidence for it not to be related.
To be cautious is a good thing, and ever since, I’ve never used PSN to buy anything.
Bankzy108
By the sounds of it you blame Sony for money being stolen from your account – not being funny but it might not of been related and just pure coincidence. Have you shopped online? Could of been that or anything really.
Out of curiosity, has there been anyone else that lost money at that time that is publicised anywhere? I never saw any follow up stories on any sites that I visit that say a fair few/hundreds have had there money taken or whatever. Not saying that you couldn’t be right, because you could although, I wouldn’t say for definite as it could of been a number of different things.
JesseDeya
Too much of coincidence? Except all the financial institutions interviewed stated there had been no increase in fraud or theft in the aftermath of the Sony breach.
That also makes sense when you consider the passwords were hashed, the CC numbers encrypted and the CVV2 never stored.
Have you any idea how many cards get compromised on a daily basis?
Coincidence is more than likely exactly what it was, but I can’t blame you for being cautious. It’s your money after all. I hope in addition to making a stand against PSN, you’ve also taken the time to change all your passwords to be unique and very strong. Anyone who doesn’t these days has to accept a fair portion of the blame if they become compromised.
Shalashaska
Very dubious, went and changed it there, hopefully it’s just a technical fault that’s the reason for the warning and not another hack……..
